I have been doing photographic work for my college/high school for a long time now (3+ years). My work gets published in the college magazine sometimes and in local photo journals frequently. Is there a way for me to showcase my work on a larger scale and perhaps get some challenging assignment :)

Welcome to the forum ashish.... wish I could answer your question. We do have a few professionals floating around thru the gallery and the forum, maybe they could answer that.

I no way near the professional you're looking for Ashish, but I for one have gotten a lot of attention because of my website http://www.warbirds.n3.net I started it just as a 'for fun' to post some of my warbird images, but now it's turned into something huge where people are contacting me all the time. In fact, many people seem to be now relying on me to take the photos of the events they miss so they can see what happened! But I'd recommend that you build a website showcasing your work if you haven't already.

I agree with Britt, having your own website helps a lot. (Saves you from the trouble of bringing around your portfolio, too, at times.) This doesn't just apply to photography, too. Keeping a database of contacts and potential clients also help. Mingle with people. Talk to others in related fields. You'll find that word of mouth really goes a long way. My friend would tell me, never tire of contests (as long as you don't mind not winning). You'll never know if you're going to get your big break and/or recognition when you join those things. (*

Yes, welcome. I took a look at your gallery and see you are from India so I would think you could dedicate a website to photography on that subject. I am also looking for opportunities to get my work posted to broader markets. I may take your question and expand on it some with a repost to try to draw in more discussion.
