Attached Link: Bending Bryce with Photoshop

This is a tutorial on how I used Photoshop and Bryce to bend rj001's Shape to my will. (From April's Bryce Forum Challenge) It goes through the entire process of one of the shapes I used in the Challenge. Real easy, no talent required, lol. Next up...the (accursedly complex) ocean water... AgentSmith

I wonder how hard it will be to swim in Accursedly Complex Ocean Water?

AgentSmith posted Wed, 28 May 2003 at 5:38 AM

Why, accursedly hard, of course. AS

Great tutorial AS; gonna try it out later. One tiny point: the version of Lattice Composer that's available now is a later one than you used - it hasn't got the setting you mention but there's still plenty to play around with. Can't wait to get back to my Bryce machine now :-)

catlin_mc posted Wed, 28 May 2003 at 10:52 AM

Thank you AS, I was hoping we'd get this tutorial soon. I'm away to try it now. Catlin

Cambert "it hasn't got the setting you mention" Which setting is that? Bryce 5 has everything Bryce 4 has. AS

I may realize what you may be talking about. Bryce 4 vs. Bryce 5's Terrain Editor is layed out a little differently. Hopefully this pic clears things up? AS

catlin_mc posted Wed, 28 May 2003 at 5:27 PM

You can only do this clipping if you use a lattice it doesn't appear if you use a terrain. At least it doesn't for me. Catlin

AgentSmith posted Wed, 28 May 2003 at 7:02 PM

Actually, you should be able to clip either a Terrain or a Lattice. I've always been able to. (B4 or B5) It's just in the tutorial I used a symmetrical lattice to make the shape. AS

Where did you find the 'Redfield Lattice Composer'? I have PaintShopPro but the basics are the same, no?

Attached Link: Redfield Plugins

I just did a search engine search for freeware plugins, found some sites that listed a lot of free ones, and tripped over Redfields plugins. It does say at the site that the Redfield plugins are Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Photo-Paint compatible, and I would assume the plugin gui looks/works basically the same way in each program. But, don't quote me on that, I only own Photoshop. AS

cambert posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 3:43 AM

Sorry, AS, I probably wasn't being clear. The Lattice Composer plug-in that's available now is a later version: currently it's v1.13 whereas your screenshot says you used v1.02. The 'Octopus Licence' setting isn't there any more, and the presets included are very 'regular'. None of them are as interesting as the one you used. There are more controls, but it's difficult to get that pleasing, organic kind of irregularity that you got with the Octopus preset. It would need something like the Photoshop 'Wave' filter, run after the Lattice Composer, to get that now (unless I'm missing a trick here :-)

Zhann posted Thu, 29 May 2003 at 4:13 AM

Thanks for the link, downloaded it... cambert, I noticed that also in the newer version :(

Wow, had no idea this was the situation. I have e-mailed Redfield asking them for help with this. Hopefully they will give me a way to put the old preset in the new version, otherwise my tutorial is basically worthless. AS

Look in the FAQ section, there is a question there about a tutorial using the older version of lattice composer and a link to download the old version. Just downloaded and installed it, the octopus preset is in it. YAAAAY!!

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

Yup, got the reply back from John Redfield, here is the link to the old version 1.02 (also, thanks ringbearer) I just tried it and it comes with the "Octopus License" preset. Just unzip it and throw it into your plugin directory. AgentSmith

Yeah! Cool... No prob. p.s. - anyone downloading (any or both versions) of the Lattice Composer plugin; (If you haven't) Be sure to go to the "Samples page and look for the 3 Filter Samples that can be used specifically for Lattice Composer (Fancy Photo Frames, Around Face, and ICE Text 3D) They hold downloadable presets that can be installed and used. (i.e.; It gives you more "stock" presets in your drop down menu in your plugins) AS

Just a second here, can you have both new and older versions coexisting in the plugins folder (before I try and end up with no plugins at all s)?

Zhann, Thanks! I kind of thought it was C&J. Yes! I just tried it in photoshop - move the k102 folder to your plugins directory after unzipping it. - TJ

AgentSmith posted Fri, 30 May 2003 at 4:12 AM

I have the old and new versions both working. Try putting them into seperate folders under the Plugins folder. That's what I have. AS
