took Caleb68's advice and had a look at ProHosting. Gave me a chance to put something up I've been wanting to do for over a year now.Follow the link to my new site (VERY basic, apologies for total lack of design cred) for some free tile and wallpaper patterns AND the chance to change the world!
No really, I'm not kidding. Please have a look and let me know what you think. (I also need to know if the downloads work!)
The little chap above is a Traug, a Mushroom Knight of the English Woodland. (Poppi, if you're around you may remember them). He and his friends are available as free Poser figures - but there's more to it than that...
At this stage I value input/suggestions as much as people volunteering to join in.
Ye gods you have no idea how vulnerable I feel right now.

Hi peejay, Your traugs look lovely. I'm not much of an artist, but I'd like to have a go. Now off to read the poem and make some textures. Shanna :-) Would like to change the world.

thanks BTW I should warn you, the poem runs to about 40 pages, so you probably won't be able to read it all in one sitting. It does mean that there's plenty for everyone.....

Thanks for the heads up in the Poser forum Sharen...these are terrific and I hadn't even noticed this forum over here! I may sneek around in here and learn something...grin

Um...what does a Mowlip look like? Or a Battle Mole? Is there a Filo model? Love the story, so far (I'm on Chapter 5) Shanna
peejay posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 6:28 PM
Yes - what does a Mowlip look like? You tell me. A part of this concept is to showcase what you can all do. I don't want to dictate how things should be. My vision for this is for everyone to share THEIR creativity. I'm much more interested in finding out what your vision of a Mowlip or a Whale Frog is, than trying to impose mine. When it comes to final renders, the greater the variety in the styles of image/treatment, the stronger the overall result will be. If someone wishes to submit a biro drawing instead of a 3d render - that's cool. If someone doesn't want to use my designs for the Traugs - that's cool too! So what does a Mowlip look like? I can't wait to find out!

They're adorable! And the cause is a wonderful idea--virtually unknown. But I'm unable to download any of them--followed directions and clicked and the zip's url appears, but nothing downloads :( If it helps: I'm using an iMac and dl'ed several other things today, so I don't think it's me....? I hope you can help

Are you going to the right place? I just tried and it let me download with no problem. On the very bottom of the page that says Meet the Traugs there is a green link saying Traug download page When you click on that you come to a page with pictures of each Traug When you click on the picture of a Traug you get a new page opens with a ProHosting banner. The link is on the banner under the words To continue downloading this file, please click the link below. They are there...honest :-) Shanna hope that helps. ps, I'm using ie.
Patricia posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 12:03 AM
Maybe I should dust off IE and give that a try...darn it. I'm doing exactly what you are, going to the second page, etc. The zip's URL is what I click, and it appears above in the address field, but nothing downloads :( I'm on a Mac, which (very, very rarely) causes me to be unable to download something that everybody else is getting with no problem...could that be it?? I'm also using Safari as my browser, since it's so much faster to navigate around 'Rosity, but I'll find IE and give it a try next. Thank you for responding :)
sandoppe posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 12:07 AM
Same here Patricia and I'm using IE 6.0 on a Pentium IV and Windows XP Pro! When I click on the link described (after following the instructions listed above), I simply get the same page opening.....no zip file. Patricia, are you running Norton Internet Security by any chance?
Patricia posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 12:12 AM
It was my browser...?! Wonder what's different about that site? So I guess I'd better keep IE around after all. Safari is just so much faster in general (with the exception of the older DAZ site, where it crawled) Anyway, I got my wee Traugs...just possibly the cutest things since Koshini ;)
sandoppe posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 12:16 AM
Well I guess I'm just sunk.....it doesn't work with my IE 6 at all. I thought it might be the ad blocker, but I turned it off and still no go. Too bad.....I would have enjoyed them.

I'm probably going to regret this, but if anyone can't access them ... ( the only reason I can think of is a download manager like GoZilla might be messing things up - with a lot of the free hosts you have to use the option 'send back to browswer' when they complain. Sorry don't understand it - ask someone with a brain) ...send me their e-mail address and I'll try to send them direct. Your going to have to be patient though, I only have dial up, and with my computer/modem they'll take over 10 minutes each. The alternative is if someoene else can be kind enough to host as well? In the meantime I'll see if I can get a mirror site up one one of the other free hosts. My apologies for any difficulty - I don't know either! peejay
sandoppe posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 1:26 AM
Success! I was determined to get them, so I started up the laptop and tried that. Apparently it is either the SP1 update to IE 6 that is creating the problem or Norton Security.....something in the firewall settings. Something in the download method employed at your site that my main computer doesn't like! In any case, I got them. Now all I have to do is see if I can burn them so I can read them on my other computer. I really need to get some kind of a network system here. I have 5 computers and none of them tied together:) Thanks for your efforts!
sandoppe posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 2:11 AM
This has been quite a night! I was able to burn them to a cd on the laptop, took it to my main computer and there they were!! I figured I was home free......but no.....the zip files when copied to the hard drive were empty!! I tried one of the smaller ones on a floppy....same thing!!! By now I'm thinking the computer has a serious problem. Then I recalled that this had happened once before and Stuffit had to be used to open them and not the Windows Expander Wizard. Well......it worked :) I can only assume they were packed by Stuffit as normally a zip file will open just fine with Windows Expander. By god I better make something with these things, that's all I can say! :) I'm not sure why they didn't download on this computer peejay. I don't use a download manager (have DSL on this one). I would sure like to find out though! I must say that I had forgotten how much of a drag it is waiting for a 56k modem to download! :) I wouldn't worry about it.....I'm probably the only person here that will have the problem! :)

The Traug Adventure continues! Only one of the zips that I DL'ed will open (Widget).... And I use Stuffit to unzip all my files, so I can't imagine what's going wrong. There appears to be content inside each zip, but Stuffit can't pry it out. :(
sandoppe posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 11:40 AM
That's amazing Patricia! :) You and I seem to be the "oddballs" here :) If you read my last post you'll note that Stuffit is how I eventually got them all to open! :) I had the same experience when trying to open with the Windows XP extractor......there appeared to be content inside each zip, but I could not get the method I normally use to extract it. Maybe you should try downloading Winzip for Mac (assuming there is such a thing) and see if that works! :)

Thank you so much, Sharen :) I wonder what it was about the site and the original zips that caused so many problems for me?? The only other site where I'm unable to DL stuff is Helmut Schab's old site...
sandoppe posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 12:10 PM
Thanks Sharen :) While I finally got them all very early this morning, I have not had time to try them in Poser. Given the previous problems (with downloading and like those described by Charles), I was concerned there might be some corruption issues involved even after getting them to open with Stuffit and downloaded from your site as well......sort of an insurance policy :)

Sorry folk seem to be having trouble, and thank you Sharen - I have no idea what the problem is, but thanks for the help anyway. BazC There is no definite timescale on this - kind of hard to set one if you're relying on the goodwill of others. I think that if this takes off, then a proposal to a publisher wil be ready when its ready - but don't worry, there's obviously room for expansion of the concept if that's how people want to play it. You could envisage spin off's like calendars for example which could also be sold as fund raisers. Can i just say the hugest thanks for the support shown in the last 12 hours, and re-iterate that this is a stone soup project - how long it takes, and how far it goes depends upon you good people. I can't wait to see what you all have in your minds thanks again peejay

Just had a quick look and had the same download issue. i.e. page just repeating - XP, Nortons internet security - is possible that caused a problem - but Getright worked fine to download them. (tested dragging into the drop target) so I don't think it'd be a download manager issue.
