Secrets of Figure Creation in Poser 5 Includes Poser 3, 4, and Pro Pack Well, there's a new Poser book coming onto the scene, due out at the end of July: "Secrets of Figure Creation in Poser 5." Is this the Poser book for you? If you are looking for a how-to-use-Poser book, the answer is "no." But if you want to create custom content for Poser (for yourself, your in-house projects, or for the Poser content market), then take a look. If you don't have Poser 5, don't despair, the process and techniques covered span from Poser 3 through Pro Pack as well. Learn the basics of figure design theory and practice, and how to optimize your mesh for Poser. Tame the Magnets for morphing, and find uses for the inscrutible Grouping Tool. Learn about the Setup Room, the Hierarchy Editor, and the ancient art of PHI files. Arcane Secrets are revealed: the true meaning of all that stuff in the CR2 (and PP2, PZ2, and other Poser files); Cross-Talk and how it can work for or against you; Extended Remote Control; Easy Pose; Conforming Clothing; Control Handles; and Geometry Swapping. Learn tips and tricks for creating UV Maps, creative ways to "slice" your OBJ files, and other interesting techniques to solve sticky Poser problems. Learn the advantages and potential pitfalls of the new Poser 5 Dynamic Hair and Cloth, and how to incorporate both into your designs. Explore the new Shader Trees and learn some techniques for use with procedural materials. And most importantly, "Secrets" has an entire chapter on trouble-shooting. Does your figure fall apart? Are pieces missing? Your conforming clothing fails to conform? Do you suffer from mysterious black holes? Exploding morphs? Dials that don't do anything? The answers are all at your fingertips: why these things happen and especially what to do to fix them! The author is long-time Poser user, B L Render, who started with Poser 2, and entered the online Poser scene in 1999. If you've never heard of B L Render, perhaps you are more familiar with Bloodsong, one of the "PoserTechs" of the forums, owner of 3D Menagerie, designer of Dragon Factory, the Heavy Horse and Barding Pack I, the Wee Beasties, and DAZ brokered items such as the Antelope Expansion Pack, Eagle Expansion Pack I, Songbird Remix and Eagle Remix. "Secrets of Figure Creation" is now available for pre-order at Amazon.com and Amazon-UK.com, and should be hitting bookstores in August. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0240519299/qid=1054809580/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/102-9913098-0727302 http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0240519299/qid=1054809858/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/202-9438089-7959865Spit posted Thu, 05 June 2003 at 8:05 AM

heyas; if you're going to siggraph and can't wait to get your copy from amazon, the book will be available for purchase at siggraph. focal press and morgan kauffmann have a booth together under elsevier, which is their parent company. look for them, because... well, if you go into siggraph chanting 'we want the book!' nobody is going to know what the heck you are talking about :) no, i will not be at siggraph, myself.

But I might be!!! Darn, I wish you could be coming to San Diego. We could have had an author's reception at the library. I promise, I wouldn't cook.
