Over the past few days i have not been able to successfully render anything in Production mode... Draft renders fine, but Production mode goes very slow and usually hangs while calculating shadow maps. I have tried using different lights, characters, etc. I have Poser 5 with SR3 installed. The render hangs, (it was nowhere near finished after 23 hours, so i cancelled it) It usually comes back up after i cancel, now THAT is hanging too... I cancelled the render this about 10 hours ago...do i have any hope of it coming back up or have i just lost all my work? I thought this was corrected in the last patch... :-| Brooke

Did this happen before sr3? When you say 'successfully render' does that mean it started rendering and quit/locked up or does it always hang at calculation? Has it ever passed it and started rendering the image? How dense is your scene? How many lights do you have? Did you augment the default production settings at all? If so, what did you change? The only difference (someone please correct me if im wrong) between production and draft are a few check box options and the texture res and shading rate. Any of those can be your cuplrit. Outside of poser, try defraging. Also, run the gambit on your system looking for resource hogging applications that may be running in the bg. If this is a new problem that only started a few days ago, backtrack if you can. Maybe you did something or something happened to your system. Godd luck

I'm having the same exact problem. poser never gets to the rendering. It hangs while doing the shadow map. I cut done the amount of lights casting shadows. (3 only 1 casts shadows) and it now hangs while adding objects. I'm running XP with 512 MB and a 1G athlon. Task manager says i have tons of memory left 300 MB+ it also says poser still uses about 97% of the cpu cycle for hours on end. It does not tell me that poser has stopped responding. This problem did not appear that I now of before SR3. I've played with just about ever setting there is. PS this is using the Firefly render not the older "poser" renderer.

DrJest...i finally killed the process..after 2 days i decided it wasnt coming back and i could have re created my work in much less time :-) I killed the process, rebooted, and defragged both drives. Everything is running a lot faster now, and renders perfectly. I actually rendered a 1200x1200 150 dpi picture in about 20 minutes, with 3 or 4 shadow maps, and a total of 8 lights. Of course, i was using v2 instead of v3...so she could have been my problem. i will check that out and post the results later on. Try defragging and see if that helps! Brooke

Brooke...tried defragging (even tho my system does it weekly anyway) no dice. also moved my swap file to a different drive which has more than 10G's contiguous free space still no luck. I'm thinking the file I'm working on may have been corruupted in some way. I think I'll redo it from a past incremental save and if that doesn't work i'll reinstall Poser 5 but not SR3 I think I have SR2 backed up somewhere on a CD. Thanx for the input any other flashes of divine insight please post 'em. Thanx DrJest
