Nine more hours of render time on an image I'm not even sure I like :( Before I added 1 radial light render time was only 10 minutes :( Only problem is I need that light or it's too dark, any suggestions?

I would render it out and do some postwork, but not sure if in your situation it's feasible...do you have a WIP you can post? MD

I have one without the figure and the radial light(I think I saved it in photoshop this morning :P) Yep, I do :) What's missing is the figure and the radial light just off center to the right of the foremost tree. It's supposed to be for the June challenge if I can get the image in my head on the screen :)

If I take the light out, total render time is 12 minutes. I can't see just one radial light making that much difference but it does....

haha...I know what you mean, but the sad thing is, sometimes they do. I'm not a pro on reducing render times, but I would think that some postwork could light the entire scene up fine just by toying with some brightness and contrast...that's how I would usually do it, outside of maybe a few instances where I'd have to roll with something else. I'm beginning to think that a few minutes of postwork in Photoshop or something can save hours in render times and look just the same. Anyone else have suggestions to help out the Squeekmeister? :) MD

squeeka, something else you might try is to change the light to ranged. If you're only trying to light a portion, not all of it (like replacing the sun), then limiting the light helps. At least, I've found it does when I've done that. Playing with the shadow settings of the light might help also. And someone will correct me if I'm completely off base here, but I think I'm right. Susan

I've got the light set to ranged and only at 12. Maybe it's because it's parented to the figure? I don't know, I'm going to let it finish rendering without the light in there and save it, then rerender and play with the light a bit as eelie suggested. We'll see what happens :) Thanks to both of you for the suggestions, I'll try them out. Jen :)

lemme guess, stairway to heaven? I dunno, i think it looks okay without the light.

squeeka posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 7:44 PM

Stairway to Heaven it would be :) Just need to put the lady in white in there and a couple other things and then postwork. It's one of my all time favorite songs and the very first album I ever got :)

LOL Bryster, I don't get hacked (whatever that means). I don't even know if I can pull off my image or not. This is lovely and the sky is beautiful (very heavenly). Zepplin is one of my top 5 bands from the 70's. I've got most of their cd's. Ang
