I will place props on my characters before I put them in complicated poses.
If I put a character in a complicated pose, I will save the pose before restoring the character back into the default pose in order to put in the prop I'd forgotten about earlier.
I will remember to parent the prop to the character after spending 10 minutes getting the placement exactly right and before re-posing the character.
If I stupidly forget to do this, I will learn from my mistake and not repeat it 8 more times in the next 4 hours.
I will apply MAT files to the figure they modify and only to the figure they modify.
If I apply the MAT file to the wrong character, I will simply choose the correct character and not spend the next 15 minutes trying to debug the MAT file.
I will not apply poses to conformed clothing. If I do, I will not fix the clothing then apply the pose to the clothing again.
I will not rely on Undo.
I will not spend 2 hours getting a scene just right then promise to save just after trying an experiment to tweak the scene.
In other words, I will not repeat yesterday.

Oh!. . . suddenly realizing why her application of props takes as long as it does. Before you pose-- what a concept! But I'd miss all those times when ytransfer does what xtransfers supposed to do and z does nothing at all. Well, I wouldnt' miss them that much. And, I too would like an end to those-- hey, it's just a quick render . . . . two hours later, libraries still sticking out, objects still loading, desperately pressing the ctrl-S. You ain't alone. Wonderful list. I'd add: "I will learn to use the Recycle bin instead of deleting everything I need immediately after use. I will remember that the computer now has A WHOLE LOT more than 5 Megabytes of disk space."

Yes, yes Ockham Bought a 120GB to go with the other two 60Gb in my machine. Of course after that is "I will remember to BACK IT UP in case of ....."

I will not rely on Undo for Undo is frellin' useless 90% of them time. I will not select 'conform to' the wrong figure. :)
Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

I will definitely save before trying to render to new window with the ultra global lighting of 75 lights. I will lock hair props before posing. I will uncheck IK before applying a ready-made pose (most of the time they give twisted effects if IK is on) If I spend an eternity getting an expression right I'll save it so I won't need to do that again. Ah, what's the use, been saying all this to myself for the past 4 years, you'd think I would have learnt by now :))

I will not start a 4800 x 6000 test render in Firefly production mode if I want to use the computer for anything else this evening.

Well, I just found another one. (See the Animation-inside-animation thread a couple slots down from here.) "I will look at CL's sample scripts before I spend several hours re-inventing one of their wheels."

It's not that you WILL not rely on Undo, you CANNOT rely on Undo. Cos most of the time it dun work :(
shazz501 posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 10:01 AM
if you're anything like me it doesn't matter HOW many time you must remember something it goes out the window next time you fire up poser..lol even if you have it tatooed on your forehead and sit in front of a darn mirror..lol

Rule #1: There is no such thing as "Undo" in Poser. Sure, there is a menu labeled with that word, but 90% of the time it doesn't work and the other half of the time, it doesn't undo what you want it to undo. I will remember to ALWAYS save the scene before rendering. If I liked the previous change, I will save this file using a different name. If I want to "undo" the next pose, I will first go to Figure menu, then Memorize the figure (see rule #1). If I don't like the new pose, I can go back to Figure, then Restore. If I want to experiment with faces and expressions, I will also Figure, then Memorize the figure (see rule #1; see above rule). If I want to revert back to the current pose and there are mutiple figures, I will add the pose to the library (see rule #1). I can delete these poses later, if I want, but if I don't like the current pose, I can re-apply the old one. I will work on a scene slowly and methodically and not let Poser make me so frustrated that I forget these rules. I will post these rules on my monitor, so I will read them every time I use Poser.

Gareee posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 10:20 PM
Ok, I have another one.. When I unzip a freebie into poser's folders, I will LOOK where things are going, so I'll at least have SOME idea where it might be when I fire poser up. I think 30% of my poser time is spent looking for something I just installed....
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
Phantast posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 5:27 AM
Oh, that's easy. Don't unzip automatically, drag and drop the files you want from Winzip into Windows explorer, and put them where you want them. In sensible places. Otherwise your file system will become a complete mess.
