some people over-value order and predictability. I don't. WEEDS You stand, hands in pockets, rocking to and fro on your heels, an irritating stance desensitised by familiarity, and scrupulously survey the garden. What now, I muse? The poppies . the poppies flick-flouncing their frilly french skirts To the respiratory rhythm of the breeze. You observe some stringent weeding is required. As ever your tone is petulantly pompous which you defensively define as tidy mind. Now Ill concede without reservation That these humble poppies would not merit even a miniscule footnote in the Encyclopaedia of Garden Flowers Ill admit that they are wild, invasive and horticulturally unplanned. I confess, freely, that the barely-budded lilies will look lost and a little forlorn when they come to reach full flower. Yes, they are weeds, I readily agree: an impertinent assault on your classificatory comfort-blanket. Weeds they are, most certainly enduring, tenacious, intrusive and generously fecund. Weeds, which at the glorious crown of the day, the purple twilight, glow neon-bright tart yellow and sweet orange, earth-bound nova endlessly renewed. They caress my sleeping senses, gladden my hardened heart. I will ever cultivate and cherish These wayward wandering waifs. You listen, grunt, and recommend A virulent vicious herbicide.
Sometimes the unplanned 'weed' is the most beautiful bit in the garden.
Ahhh - I wish my weeds were as lovely! I am new to Renderosity, and am thrilled to find that I can post both my art and poems here! (As soon as I figure out how, lol.) The poem reflects a deep appreciation of nature in it's natural state! No herbicides from me!
A rose can be a weed in a vegetable garden....it's all a matter of perception. I startled one gardening adviser because he wanted to sell me something guaranteed to get dandelions out of my lawn. I don't want to get rid of my dandelions. I love my dandelions. Thank you, Meico. I agree, Charmz. Welcome, tien_avielle! Feel free to ask questions if you have any problems posting. :)
