More for shits and giggles than anything else, I wanted to try to render this piece of Michael Whelan's art to prove to myself that I could make a 3d-ish version of a piece of art already out there. And so this was my attempt. Figure done in Poser 4; sky, terrain and some of the light ball in Bryce 4; cape, hair, more of the light-ball, and some minor post-work on the terrain and figure done in Adobe 5. (once I fond the original pic on my hard drive I can link it for comparison, but for now, you'll have to take my word that this looks somewhat like the original)

Not necessary for me at least, I have a copy of the original myself & you did a great job :-)
