Here it is, after numerous tweaks and restarts, changing monsters (I like the kraken better), texture headaches, etc. What I learned on this challenge;

-patience is a virtue, 11hrs,49mins, 1 sec to render

-to use Poser and bring it into Bryce

-to make ocean swells, spray, foam out of terrains

-to do post work, which I never do...:)

-use a 2d plane for sky (although I knew it, I never used it before)

-some lighting for effect

So that it for what it's worth, I hope everyone enjoys it, the title is 'The Summoning', 1200x900 will be in my gallery after we vote....do I need to check 'nudity'?

WOW! Truly Amazing. All that you've learned has certainly paid off. The over all image is Great but that ocean is the Prize. Hats off to you Jan!

IMO this is superb! While I don't normally advise people to change monsters in midstream, I also think the Kraken is the better choice. And that water is some of the best I have ever seen in Bryce, or other 3D apps. I don't think the nudity is an issue.

draculaz posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 8:52 PM

it is truly one of the better renders i've seen in a long while :) awesome work!

burgi posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 8:57 PM

its not the sea monster i was expecting. but agree its better than mine. John

GROINGRINDER posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 11:11 PM

Oh wow, this water has to be the best turbulent ocean I have ever seen outa Bryce!!

MuddyGrub posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 11:55 PM

Fantastic waterwork. I must have missed the Kraken post but this one is wonderful.

Zhann posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 1:11 AM

MuddyGrub, my first attempt was to have a sea serpent and it didn't look right, so I changed it to the Kraken....:)

Awesome! From WIP to final are so many cool changes - you really worked hard on it. Congrats, this looks fantastic!

Wow, that`s impressive. Love that sea.

catlin_mc posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 6:38 AM

Your work on the water is spectacular Zhann and makes for a very striking scene. I think on this one you've outdone yourself and you've left me with a problem............."how on earth am I gonna pick who to vote for, there are too many great images to choose from"............and this one is tops. 8) Catlin

Doublecrash posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 6:43 AM

A killer entry! So, now I have the same problem of catlin... I think you really did a superb work on this one, and I just can't believe that you "learned" those things and applied them so well in so short time. No, ok, I believe it, but... whoa! :) S.

I agree with everyone else--great image, and the water is superb! The way it's lit is fantastic. Good job!

catlin_mc posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 12:41 PM

Hey Zhann, how's about a little tut on your making of the water terrain? I am most eager to find out what you did to get these great results and I'm sure there are lots of folk here who could learn a lot from it. If you are too busy to do this then please ignore me. Cheers 8) Catlin

This is a truly great picture. I'm very impressed with your work, Zhann. No kidding. I do,however have a couple of personnal niggles if you will permit me....? I think the lady on the rock needs to be pointing and looking at the monster as if she is conjoring it up out of the depths. Her light might benefit from a touch of lense flare, although the blue is a nice shade.. The monster itself looks old - was that intentional? I say this because the arms look kinked, almost arthritic...if that was your intent then fine, I would have smoothed out the arms to look stronger/more detemined. After a few moments study I noticed the water pouring off the beasty's arms...very nice touch... As for the sea and sky.....what can I say....they are simply perfect. I've seen the ocean in this state and it's terrifying! You have caught it exactly! You're just too good for this place.... Go away and make some other forum despair! ...:-) The Bryster

And I thought the WIP was too good, This is great! I'm getting a complex though.. every time my work improves 100% yours goes up 2-300%. At this rate I'll never win;)

Thank guys, this month's image has been a challenge for sure, and it took all month...:)

Belated Credits;

Hey B, yeah ,he's the oldest of his kind (I didn't make the model though, I kinda had to take it as is, but I did rearange the tenacles somewhat in Amapi), and she is looking at him, sorta, but when you conjure, you never know where things are gonna pop up!

Catlin, sure I'll try my hand at a tutorial, what I learned came from several tuts that I combined, a long as I don't trend on anybody toes, I'll do one that is specific to this image and emcompasses the lot...it may take awhile, but I'll give it a shot...:]

And after checking out the other entries, whooa, this is gonna be a tough one this month, everyone is getting sooo expert!

LOL..................8) It's not flattery, you deserve the compliments. I used to go to your site and gallery to admire your abstract work but since you've started doing traditional work I am more and more impressed with what you have achieved, ie. last months entry was a stunner too. Thanks for sharing your wonderful artwork Zhann it's much appreciated. Catlin
