Never been in the photography forum before...so q #1: What's the deal with these monthly challenges, where are the rules etc on em, and #2: Anyone know what the Vote For This Image button does, and what you're voting for, and what effect it has, how many times can you click on it and this question is way too long...

this is the link to the rules, or you could click on the monthly challange link above and it's in there someplace. and the vote botton is to vote the image into the hot 20. if you're in a topic gallery (the first slide down) there will be a hot 20 link where you can view the 20 "hotest" pics from the last 15 days or something. http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?Hot=Yes&Sectionid=8 this will take you there.

As far as the effect it has, hmmmm
too many clicks could result in mild carpal tunnel...
