Subject: streching to infinty?

Example pics: Http://samshomepage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/infiniti.jpg Http://samshomepage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/infiniti2.jpg what i was wondering is hard to explain. i wanted to know if there was an easier way to make something appear as if there is a millions of them strecthing of to the horizon. i have a line of objects and i wanted to know if there is an easier way than copy and pasting them because they are complex objects and it is taking my comp forever. i basically want that same line copied back along the z axis about 100 times to create an infinte look. how can else can i do this? thx in advance ~cheesebanana

Hi, if all the clones of your object are going to be seen from the same angle (that is, if they are going to present the same face to the camera as they stretch off into the distance, you could try rendering an images of just one on a white background, save it as jpg, then use that jpg to apply the image to a 2-D face object. Put a couple of copies of your 3-d object closest to the camera, then make the rest of your row out of the 2-D faces (multi-replicate them so that they stretch back into the distance). This will be much faster to do, and will keep the size of your file down.

hmm..did one recently with a simple 3ds object. I have a method I use I call 'guppying', which relies on exponential math..
Make a copy of the object, line up. Copy both, line up Copy all 4..(you see where this is going..;) The trick is to get them to line up. I've been known to go to a 'Y-orientation' (looking straight down) to get the x and z axes right, but if you align before you copy, it's much easier.. good luck.
Another thing to remember is just to fill the visible area..if the camera doesn't see it, there's no reason to fill it.

Why not just multireplicate the object on the y or z axis?

i've done it. i realised that the angle that the camera is at means that i can only see the tops of the objects after about the second line so i just made a simpler version of the object with none of the detail that would be hidden and copied it.

because it has too many syllables?..;) That's another thing I haven't done yet because I haven't RTFM'd..;) Have to dig through the garage now..saw it between the pre-Cambrian and Silurian layers..;)
