Hi... when i learn Z-toon technique from Snow Sultan , i found it can achieve from playing z scale`s MAIN camera to get same result ( cartoon style ) . Change z scale of Main camera around 700 - until 1300 to get nice anime render , this technique eliminate conforming problem with z -toon technique , and for best result takes down texture around 60 - 80 % ( 60% more cartoonal , 80% more standart result but still look like cartoon ) These pics use 0.500 shadow and 1024 map size , one single white light ( infinite , but try with 3 or more infinite lights to get another fx but reduce every light intesity ) and all reflections change to black V3 use tortoise , daz retro cloth and bell bottom ( conform applied ) Note : if u use more than 1 light , increase z`s camera scale around 2000 - 3000 remember this technique only use MAIN camera ( i never try another , but face camera cant use since they dont have z scale parameter ) I hope this thread useful ,plz corect if im wrong , thanks jibriel ( still newbie guy )

Thanks for sharing this! I actually have not been able to duplicate the Z-toon look by scaling the camera, but I'm probably just doing something stupid. :) I am currently rewriting the tutorial to allow both conforming clothing and an adjustable camera (kind of), and I'll announce when it's ready. Take care! SnowS

I noticed the z-flattening only works well when increasing camera z-scale if all the camera rotations are zero. In other words, make the camera analogous to an orthographic front camera.

This works! Lights are tricky though and should be set up before you z the camera.

I have found also that playing with the texture percentage allows for a more/less cartoon look, depending upon what you are after. 80% seems about right for me. I like a little texture because I use SteffyZ's maps like Yuma, etc. This way you can have an "illustrated look" It has vastly improved my illustrations from Poser. I have also added in about 15-20% in the body and head highlights. This gives me a wonderful Vargas airbrushed look. I'm extremely happy with the commercial application of this pinup variation on z-toons. One other thing I've noticed about other posts is that the figures aren't as bright- as many people don't seem to be using the original SnowSultan recommendation for a single white light for full illumination of the character. However, I do use three lights myself, with light brown color tones which allows for brighter illumination and more playing around with the exact highlights effects as well. Z-Toon is a great idea and most people have not yet discovered its full pontential. A lot more will be revealed later, I think.
