When i change the file location and click apply and save a pose file, the paths always revert back to how they were. does ne1 know how to overcome this?

Do you have the material(s) you're trying to change selected in the materials list?

No idea in that case. I've never seen it fail like that. The only things I can suggest are that you check that you have all of the required dlls etc that don't ship with the program and that you check that all of the file paths in your preferences are correct.
