I'm working on a wave scene with various planes. I've used a photo sand texture on the ground plane. How can I create wet sand? But mostly, how do I make the transition between dry and wet? I've tried using procedural materials (blending with the photo), and influence of environment - but on a flat plane it doesn't work. Can anyone adivse me? BillyGoat

You could try using a picture as a displacement map. When I did this, I drew a picture with black and white color and then blurred the picture. The blur created the blending between the wet and dry sand.
You can create wet sand by lowering the diffusion and ambient settings, and add a touch of reflection if you feel daring (adds to render time).
