New guy here.... Got some cool downloads for poser, and I can't get them to work... The cr2 and rsr files were included in the download, but no obj file. How do you use the darned thing without the obj file for a new figure?

Depends, a lot of figures reference the original Objects that come with Poser. Since you already have the object in your Poser folder, the cr2 is all that's needed. Just install the CR2 and RSR file in a folder in runtime/libraries/character (or someplace similar depending on what kind of figure it is). Ummm, if the rsr file is more than a few K bytes in size, it might be Poser's binary form of an Object. In that case it needs to go in the Geometries folder. Sometimes you'll also see a .pcf file, this means you need to run Objaction Mover to decode the PCF into an object file. And sometimes, the uploader screws up and forgets to include a needed file. :) Your best bet is the readme, if there is one, or contacting the creator of the file.

As Lemurtek said, the large .rsr files are the binary version of the .obj files. If a .rsr file is supplied with the figure place it in the folder that's described in the (hopefully) included readme file. When you first open the figure in Poser you'll get an error message. By pass that and the figure should load fine.

Thank you. I've had Poser about a month now, and I'm still settling in. I've downloaded about a million zips for it, and am still trying to get some of them to work....I had thought the obj's nesissary for a new figure to work. Thanks again.

Some people try to prevent someone from stealing their models by only distributing the big RSR. However there is a utility floating around (somewhere) that can rip the OBJ out of the RSR. It's not on Renderosity, the guy who developed it represented himself badly and got accused of all sorts of stuff, so he pulled it and left. But it is possible to do it.

The .obj file is still easy to get to even if only the .rsr file is distributed. You can just use .obj file export function once the figure is in Poser.

Kevin, the problem person you are refering to was taking a metastream file and converting it to an OBJ. The RSR to OBJ conversion utility is by Anthony Appleyard, who is still a contributing member, and the utility is still in freestuff.

Oh, right. The Bighorn sheep. Sorry about that.

Yeah, that was quite a little bit of a mess, wasn't it.
