Hey it's me again. When I import two seperate .obj files into poser, I want to export them or save them so that I can create one oject that I can add two different textures to its parts. How can I do this? Man, I'm loosing sleep :) Thanks, Eric P.S. An example might be a picture with a frame.

Import the objects into Poser and position them exactly as you want them to appear. Then select File|Export and export as a Wavefront OBJ. The hierarchy window will open and you should see your objects there. Make sure both are selected from export, but no ground-plane or anything else. This will export one OBJ which can then be mapped in UV Mapper and re-imported into Poser. Now get some sleep dammit :) Paul

Thanks for your response, but something is still missing. Let me give you an example: If I go to the Props in Poser and create a ball and a cylinder and combine them so that they are touching and then export them as a one wavefront object and then import them back into Poser, when I use the paint bucket, it changes the color of both objects. I want to be able to change each to a different color. I want to see material 1 and material 2 listed in the material dialouge box. Does this help?

okay eric you need UVMapper and Poser.. Create your objects and export them as a obj.. (Not sure if this will make a differance or not but I checked these boxes in the export dialogue..)everything but weld and as morph target.. load your model in UVMapper. choose edit -select then by group choose 1 group(ie ball, or cylinder) then choose assign to material type in a material name do the same for the other group. Save your model (and uvmap if you want) load back into poser That should work. Let me know if it doesn't and I will do a tutorial to show you what I did Storm

This is where the grouping tool comes in :) If you check the sphere and the cylinder, you will see that both have just the one material "Preview". So, when you combine them, the whole object has the same material called preview. Make sure your sphere (or whatever) is selected and go to the grouping tool. In the menu, select "assign new material" and give the material a name. Do the same for the cylinder, but give it a different name. Now you can spawn totally new props (using select material and spawn prop). Delete the originals, and you now have a cylinder with the material "cylinder_material" and a sphere with "sphere_material". Now you can go ahead and combine and export the props as detailed above. If you need more help with the grouping tool, please let me know and I'll do you a mini-tutorial (I'm starting a full-blown grouping tool tutorial this weekend, but its going to be several days before its finished) Paul

hmm I should also add you might need to create a whole new uv map before you do this. Just on the ball and square I had to create a new UV map to even try this S Storm

LOL Or you could do it Lobo's way and save a lot of time..grins Storm *who seems to take the LONG way about everything *

hmmm, sounds all very interestant ... My experience is that when I exported the pieces as *.3ds-file I have to colorable texturesections for the object. I reload the file back in Poser and have the same problems as descripted by ericwestray but after recoloring them and saving in the library the color seems to be accepted (of course you can't have exact texturemaps in *.3ds as in *.obj ...

Paul: You'd have thought I woulda thunk of that with the grouping tool but I didn't ...its cool you told us.

... And while on the subject of mapping, Paul... is there a way to seperate the facets of a mesh so each facet maps seperately,(but using the same material)so the trans/bump maps dont have to be so damn huge?...hopefully without selecting each facet seperately and assigning materials to each one...(which i have tried but it spreads the map over the whole surface and defeats my purpose) ...if you can figure out what the hell i just said, let me know i got myself lost ...lol
Y'all have a great day.

maybe it's simple but did you deselect the button "use for entire prop" - or something like that - you will find that by pressing strg+u (texture) ??

thanks Alle...should i export as .obj or 3ds?
