Hi, everyone. I'm thinking seriously of upgrading from my P3/500 mhz to a new P4, specifically for 3D apps like Poser and Vue d'Esprit. I'd like to hear some words of advice from the man/woman who owns one. How long does it take to render, say, a 20 second animation in Poser with a P4 processor, and what was the speed of the processor? What was the longest render you've ever done with a P4, how many frames was it, and at what speed? Current processors out there run between 2.6 - 3.2 GHZ. I'm hoping to find out if there the 2.6 or 2.8 processors, which are somewhat cheaper than 3.0 and above, are comparable in performance when doing 3D rendering. Thanks all, for your advice and suggestions. --Garry

I own a 2 Gigahertz Pentium IV computer with 512 MB of Ram memory. I am definitely going to buy more memory. Poser IV seems slow in rendering. Moving material to be rendered into MAX is good when you can do it. It just seems to render faster and better. I don't know how much more expensive the 3.0 and above are but, if you can afford to, I would get the fastest that I could find.

Here are a few numbers for you. I only have VUE benchmarks; I tend to create my characters in Poser and render them in Vue. My system is Dual Athlon MP 2200. Vue takes advantage Dual systems while Poser doesnt. I did some test on my brothers P4 3.06 and got good results. Take a look for yourself.

With Performance Benchmarks like these, it does make it tempting to go to the dual system and Vue! Thanks DavidRivera!
