Can anybody recommend visual references for western (cowboy) saddle attachments such as rifle/pistol scabbards actually in position on the saddle? I've found plenty of saddle and saddlebag reference pictures, but none of a scabbard in place. A good book thats still in print or an online gallery would be ideal. And can anybody recommend a better forum for this post? I'm posting here because the research is for a potential Poser model, but might there be a better, non-software specific forum? Thank you!

I think there might be some tack and harness stuff in Daz' Free Brokered area. There was an actual harness at 3d Menagerie, but I don't remember if there is a rifle attachment to it or not. For that matter, I'm not sure if the site is still there..lotta help I am..;)

Hmmm.. I can think of a few places that might have those sort of photo references, let me look...

Sorry, no help for your question, but wanted to thank you for your recent freebies. Haven't got to use them yet, but love all your freebies. Very generous.

You might want to check at Amazon.com for books by Dover. They tend to have all sorts of odd and useful stuff, with fairly accurate illos.

Here's one possible site.

Actually, just using Yahoo and the word "scabbard". Lots more still there. Scabbards are quite popular.

If all else fails, try looking at a few Old West & Gunfighter re-enactment groups. I've seen one or two that lists books and/or other reference material for achieving an authentic look.

Hi pakled, thanks for the suggestions, but I'm looking for references to make the model myself, not find an existing one. :) Daio, if you could suggest a specific book or books that would be great! Ms Outlaw, thanks for the nice comment. :8} Veritas777, there are lots of scabbard pictures out there, but I have found only one of the scabbard actually attached to the saddle to show where it goes, and it's half hidden beneath the rider's leg so I can't see how it's attached. Ideally I ought to get a real-life look at the actual thing, but Western saddles with attached rifle slings are pretty rare in the UK! :/ nen-chan, I've checked a few re-enactor websites for photos, but the thought of checking their reference recommendations had escaped me, thank you I'll try that.
