OK, I finally got around to finishing the updated Z-toon tutorial that I mentioned last week. Very sorry about the delay, I just can't find time to get everything done that I'd like to. :) I don't think I made any errors, but if you find something wrong, let me know and I'll fix it as soon as possible. I hope this improved tutorial will help you to make Z-toons even faster and better than before! :) Thanks for your time, take care. SnowSmy DeviantArt page: http://snowsultan.deviantart.com/
I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.

I'll second that :) Thanks SnowS, not sure what we'd do without you :)

Thanks for the tutorial (and for giving ockham and me credit). For creating outlines, you can use Photoshop (or similar) to extract outlines from a Z-buffer or normal image with an edge detection filter. You can get a Z-buffer image using the depth cue mode or you can get colored normals with special Poser 5 materials. Depending on the filter you use, you can get outlines with varying thickness. I attached the link to my toon shading mini-tutorial, you should be able to use the outlining part with z-toons as well.darken666 posted Wed, 23 July 2003 at 2:48 PM
Thanks for updating the tutorial! Looks great, and Ztooning is becoming my favorite poser technique.

smoochies for Snowsultan, stewer and ockham. Thank you so much! (I wonder if that technique wouldn't be a good challenge theme...)

Z-Tooning has become my favorite illustration method. I am getting excellent commercial art quality renders using it.

Incredible insight and work, SnowSultan. You've changed the way a lot of us are approaching Poser now. Quite a paradigm shift. Major!

In one of the steps, you mention "Remove unwanted hightlights". I probably missed the discussion/thread where this was elaborated on, so:
Just what was done for this step? Are you in Poser5? Are you selecting specific parts in the list and removing a reflective quality (..Material room?)? Or in P4, and playing with the materials assigned to said parts?
As I said, I probably missed this point when it first came up, so I'm likely backtracking....Thanks in advance!

pretty much the same thing. In Poser 5 remove specular material and turn highlight to black, also remove any reflection maps. Pretty much the same in poser 4. At least that's how I read it.

meant to say thanks to stewer & ockham also :) Thanks to the three of you :)

Oh yes, me too! The balls/boxes made such a big difference! And don't try to take the .py script out of my hands!

Thanks, darken666. Just haven't had time to test everything yet...
