Thanks for looking at this question... I have no problem rendering Vicky's body in Max and 90% of her head renders, but without the eyeball, eyelashes and eyebrows. How can I fix this? I am using the Habware plugin to import her head and body into Max. Thanks for your help. EricLoboUK posted Tue, 04 July 2000 at 7:18 AM
This is one of those things especially designed to trick you :) There is a transparent layer over Vickie's eyeball, its that which give it the life-like appearance in Poser. You need to set this to a very-nearly transparent material. The same with the eyelashes and eyebrows - there are transparency maps for both of these parts which you need to take into account to get the same look in an exterior render. Paul

Hey Paul, When using the Material Editor in 3d Studio Max, I want to select the eyes, eyebrows and lashes, but they are all a part of the head. Where do I add the transparency map? Eric

You've got me there Eric :) I've never used transparency maps in MAX. But, I thought the eyes and brows/lashes would have been seperate items in MAX. Did you group everything when you imported into MAX, or when you exported from Poser? Paul

i havent reinstalled max since my H/D crash so i cant check, but i beleive when you imported the obj file into max and clicked use materials, in the materials list it should be listed as multi sub object there should be a dropdown listing the individual texture areas...skin,eyes,lips...etc...(even tho they are not seperate objects) just like in poser ... good luck

oh btw if you didnt check include names in your export from poser the sub-materials will be numbered instead of named

to follow up on JAFO's comment - select the mesh, then under editable mesh / subobject Faces select the different material IDs that represent the part you are looking for. If you selected import as a multiple objects then select the head then select the material IDs...

I do not know Max, but here are the materials that need transparency UpperEyebrows controlled by the "brows in" morph Eyeballs wish they had called it 'cornea" Eyelashes

Hey Brschmidt, I took your advice with working with Vicky in 3d Studio Max. I just get stuck with the Material IDs. When I choose the number 1, it selects the entire head, so then in the Material Editor I add the head texture. Then I select the number 2, in the material ids, and I get the lashes. When I add a texture to this the whole head changes. What am I doing wrong? Eric
