I've been trying to recreate the "lobby" from the Matrix. Not for any real purpose, just for fun an practice. But, I've been looking at it so much, I've lost my perspective, so I'm hoping a fresh pair of eyes could have a look and maybe make a suggestion or two.

It's all Bryce boleans, texturing by me. I know it doesn't have that "green" hue to it yet--like I said, it's a WIP!

C & C most welcome!

Well, I'll say it's great because before I scrolled down and saw the real lobby, I thought "Looks like the Matrix lobby."

Looks great. As soon as I saw it, before scrolling down, I was thinking of the Matrix.

Same here! Looks great!

Not bad not bad at all. One tip when the Matrix has you there is always a green tint, matter of fact you can see it in your examples. One more tip in the real world things are a little more blue. Trust me I know that of which I speak.

Make that example as I am evidently seeing double tonight or to lazy to change my original post. You pick.

Hmm.... Feedback.. feedback... umm... debris? Nice job so far, but I think everything could use a little more specularity. And it may just be me, but I think the pillars are a bit too crammed in. The floor looks great, BTW.

Excellent piece - I think you need a little more spacing between the pillars (like antevark said) Mebbe just increace the size of the room a little - the door at the end looks a little big (could just make the door smaller) Cant wait for an update Stash ;0)

Thanks everyone. I noticed that too--the spacing is wrong, the room needs more depth. And, antevark, the debris will probably come later :) Thanks again.

Cool. The spacing is not completely right, and the collums are not damaged in you pic. I've got a damaged concrete volume texture if you're interested.

I think the pillars need a black marble .mat. You might try adding a blue radial....it might bring our that green tinge..

The floor looks a little bit too bright. I think it needs to be darkened. Also, like everyone said, the pillars are too close to each other. The door needs some work, it doesn't look very elevator-door-like.

mloates posted Fri, 25 July 2003 at 11:42 AM

At this point, I'm not worried about the damaged columns--that will probably come later. (Rayraz--I'm definitely intersted in the damaged concrete tex you mentioned, I'll IM you). And, the lighting will be adjusted to give that green tinge.

Wow, the second WIP is much closer and I thought the first one was good! The only other thing, and I just now noticed by looking at the reference pic and the second WIP, is the row of fluorescent lights on the top of each wall behind the pillars. This is just an observation, not a nit-pick. Hell, any true Matrix fan would immediately recognize this lobby as it stands now, Fantastic job!

mloates posted Fri, 25 July 2003 at 2:51 PM

Thanks danamo. I noticed the lights as well, and have already added them (great minds...). I think the general structure is coming along. Now, it's a matter of tweaking the textures and, eventually, adding the debris. Probably, I'll have two versions a "clean" version and a "shot to hell" version.

Or, animate the process... :)
