okay, people were talking about doing stupid things a few weeks back, so i have a much delayed, but valid one to add. i was cleaning out my folders and junk that builds up in my comp, and i deleted a folder that had about 6 gigs of stuff, most of it was exported poser figures, old files that i didnt need, but stoopid me didnt realize (it was 3 in the morning) that my orthanc model and my nebuchadnezzar model too. it took me about 2 weeks to realize it was even gone. im working on a website where all of that stuff WAS going to be available :) luckily i had mailed terra-man a copy of the model for one of his projects, maybe with a bit of luck ill atleast be able to get that one back!!!

Do you have norton antivirus? If so, click on advanced tools on the left side and go to the unerase wizard. If not, get it.

And do NOT save new stuff until youve used Norton. (If you have access to it) Chances are, you can get lot of stuff back. Things like this really sucks. :(

Yep, call old Norton. If the deleted files aren't too old, there's a good chance you'll recover them.

Try a system restore also....I've recovered files that way, I have XP on a PC and it backs up every month or so sometimes in the backup I can retrieve the deleted file....

Zhann...you're able to restore files on a system restore? I thought it did everything just about except for files. If there's a way to recover files in the process, let me know b/c I've lost stuff before and tried a restore to no avail. :( MD

Files aren't erased on a hard drive when they are trashed. Windows just replaces the first letter of the name with a space. Big files have several pieces. These stay on the hard drive but are treated as empty space. If you save anything it can go in these spaces or others on the drive. If you get norton run unerase from the CD without installing the program. You could install Norton and wipe out the file you are trying to rescue. P.S. The trick is to forget in bigger chunks. If you forgot you even had the file at the same time you threw it away you wouldn't be worried about missing it now. I do it all the time and it works for me:)

if norton doesn't do it, www.ontrack.com has an easy recovery that will read the drive manually so you can go find it. Since you're only looking for a couple of files, the cheapest version of easy recovery should work just fine for you. Maybe even the demo?

Well Woodhurst... If it is any consolation, I have done the same thing and more than once. So you aren't retarded and you aren't alone 8).... You just got into a file cleaning frenzy or something like that. Heh heh heh....

I think almost everyone's done that, at least once. I once accidently deleted Quicktime Lighting on my old mac, not knowing what it was. Apparently Quicktime Lighting is the image caching system for desktop icons. That means that it took between 3 to 6 seconds per icon to load any Finder windows. It took a good several hours to fix that one, lemme tell ya.

I would also suggest products at www.ontrack.com, if all else fails, has worked for me in the past. AS
