I'm brand new to Poser. I bought Poser 4 and Pro Pack, ended up with faulty software, and am now waiting to get an exchange. What I'd like to know is, when the new one arrives, should I start out with just Poser 4 or install both? Thanks! Ney

I'd install both P4 and PPP. PPP will make your life easier. Many free and commercial items use .jpg files for BUM files. (BUM files create the illusion of indentations when rendering.) If you have PPP, you can use them right away. They're smaller and easier on system resources. If you have P4, you'll have to convert each one to a .bum file in Poser which takes a minute or two and will suck up a lot more hard drive space. PPP also does not create .rsr files in the Geometries folder. This may not mean much, but the upshot of it is you use less hard drive space and there's a lot less chance of the mesh going funny and doing all sorts of strange things. (One of the most common fixes for P4 weirdness is to delete the .rsr file from the Geometries folder. If you have PPP or P5, you won't have to worry about that.) There's a lot of other reasons to use PPP right away if you have it, but those are two easy ones to explain. Cheers!

The Poser "backroom" has a great deal of very helpful information for new Poser users. Especially check out the FAQ first - one of the answers gives details on PPP's benefits!

You always want to get as much practice with as new a version as you can afford. Sometimes, when you ca'nt replicate a technique as well in a newer version(Due to lack of experience,) it is ok to to have a second installation(Of the former version) working, but that would be your only reason.

and don't forget to run the patches. I would presume that they are included in your P4/pp purchase but just in case, they are over at the CL web site.
