Hi all - if you're interested, the Time Machine model (as mentioned on the attached URL) is going well, up to 43 million polygons! Yikes! If you're not interested, tell me to get lost!

Photos, we need photos! Is this the original George Pal or the one they did a few years. I think the prop from the old movie is owned by Forrest J Ackerman.

Sure hutchingsm, I'd like to see what else you've added to your model.:-)

43 million Polygons? can't you keep some in the future or something?..you one smooooth operator..;) hmm..sure, you can't have too many good models..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Yeah.... show us your progress. We are interested in what you have to share. 8)

It's all bryce primitives & booleans, with lots of lattices for some of the brackets and stuff (I'm crap with 'proper' modellers!) - will post a pic when I get home from work. electroglyph - I'm attempting the one from the 2002 movie (the one in the movie is all brass and glass and to me looks darned cool hehe).

The model looks nice, but 43 million poly's? I just don't get it.

Rayraz - obviously the model has moved on from the pic in the other thread - however it does seem alot, doesn't it? However all the lattices are 1024 x 1024 as I haven't yet decided where the detail is going to be needed - and there are 27 of them (so far), so does this mean it's more-or-less 1024x1024x27 polys for just the lattices (thats 28,311,552 polys)?

Oh... and please bear with me, I'm in no way an expert (compared to most of you guys!) and don't claim to be, so all your advice and comments, whether positive or negative, are really greatfully received!

electroglyph posted Wed, 20 August 2003 at 8:33 AM

I saw something about that just the other day. If you make a lattice and use clipping the lattice still retains the polys in the regions that don't show. You can supposedly export then reimport the mesh and get rid of the extra bulk. Doe's anyone remember the thread?

Oh Hutch you're just teasing now, where are the pictures? 8) I remember reading that thread electro but I can't seem to find it now. Catlin

hutchingsm posted Wed, 20 August 2003 at 4:24 PM

Well, I'm making a little progress, when I get time! I've added one set of the glass lenses and all the brackets and stuff for it...

catlin_mc posted Wed, 20 August 2003 at 5:19 PM

Very nice! It could almost be real, are you sure your not building this for real Hutch? 8) Catlin

hutchingsm posted Wed, 20 August 2003 at 5:29 PM

Thanks Catlin! I like the way it's turning out so far - may end up being a long way from the Dreamworks one but still, I'm having fun :o)

This is lookin cool Hutchingsm. Keep on bringing us up to date with this model. 8D Rock on buddy. You are doing an excellent job with this. 8)
