I know that you can export from Poser to Bryce. But how do you import Bryce to Poser? Is there any way of saving a material created in Bryce and then using that material as a texture in Poser? Thanks.

hey i got this message from LoboUK- Importing a Bryce picture into Poser isn't too much of a problem. Check on the File|Import menu and you'll see "Background Picture". Simply import your Bryce picture into Poser as the background. Poser into Bryce is a very different proposition. In effect, Bryce has an infinite ground-plane - there isn't a background to paste or import a picture to. You can do it by applying the image to a 2D square or circle, but that doesn't look very good. Hope this helps some

That does help. But is there any way of importing a Bryce object into Poser?

That depends on what the Bryce object is. You can export terrains from Bryce with no problem what-so-ever and IIRC they do take a version of the texture/material with them. As for exporting an OBP object, try selecting it and click on the E in the attributes list that comes up. When the smooth function opens, do ctrl-D (I think) which should open up an export dialogue. If there isn't an E in the attributes list, you can't export it :( If it is exported as an OBJ file, I can't see any reason why Bryce wouldn't create a matching MAT file - but it's not something I've tried Paul

Paul, Clicking the E in Bryce3D gets me an Edit dialog box. Pressing ctrl-D, or any other ctrl combination doesn't bring any kind of export dialog. Am I missing something? Thanks. azl

The export function is a Bryce4 feature.

azl, I'm gonna have to check that when I get home - it's one of those hidden Easter Egg thingies which I don't use very often. Paul

Yes you can .. Sort of. But only for terrains and general things. The terrain comes in with the materials intact. What you have to do is create the terrain and then, under file, click export object. It will only do it with terrains. I found it good to use for trying to make someone sit at a table, etc. That way the height is right and all. But anyway, the materials come with the export no problem. Option two is create a document that is perfectly square, ie. 400x400, put the texture you want on the ground plane and render from the top. Save the image. It creates a good swatch with the material you want without having to export stuff. I used that on my sorrow picture here: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=13271&Start=1&Sectionid=0&Form.Search=Ghostofmacbeth

azl is using Bryce3D, and the export feature wasn't added until version 4. The export 'Easter Egg' that Paul refers to is a nifty feature which allows you to export certain objects other than terrains. Those certain objects have to be a polygonal mesh. These include stones, the 'Imported Object' objects in the create menu, and any normal polygon model which you might have imported yourself. The ability to export models that have been imported makes Bryce4 quite a reasonable file converter. Bryce4 does create an mtl file along with an OBJ export. You cannot export Bryce primitives, or Boolean combinations of them. Bryce materials do not export well, and exported terrains with them applied are a pale imitation of the subtlety available in Bryce renders.

PJF, you are completely correct - this only works in Bryce 4. Sorry azl Paul

Ack .. I missed that ... The only option I can think of then would be the plane render from abve and use that in poser
