On behalf of Tresamie and myself, we would like to issue the following challenge for September.
We both decided that since the Autumn season is fast approaching we would like your submission to have an 'Autumn Theme'. Open to everyone!
Good luck and I look forward to seeing all the submissions!

That's a great theme. Good idea! Be sure to spread the word. I've posted the theme on the forums I hang out the most (Poser, Writers, and Paint Shop Pro). It's fun to have representatives from different forums to join in. :)
Deloulark posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 3:51 PM
Thanks! We picked it because we thought it can include everyone and all styles of art. :) Tresamie is also posting at some of the forums she hangs out with. Hopefully we can get lots of submissions to choose from!

Oooo very nice Linda - I live in Canada where we get to experience the fall colours in all their stunning beauty. Love this image, fits right in with our theme! :)

Wow, these three are just splendid. Not a lot of rules. Post a graphic or a link to a graphic to this thread and free your imagination so you can post to the theme before the challenge ends. And it's a great challenge when there are already three amazing graphics online. Good job!!!
RimRunner posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 11:21 PM
Yup, dialyn pretty much summed it up. Post one of your own creations here in this thread following the theme for the month. This month is "Autumn". Photographs, fractals, MS-Paint, 3DS, etc. are all welcome. :)

What's the deadline? I am doing a bryce piece, and the rendertime is ridiculous for what I'm doing!
Fractals will always amaze me!
Pyrographer posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 4:03 AM
I could have sworn I saw a post with the deadline in it but I guess I was mistaken. Well, it's only halfway through the month so I'd guess we've got time to go yet. We do something similar to this on my pyrography web site, it's not really a competition though, just a "monthly burn" but we have categories and so forth, people really enjoy it. I can't wait for October, which I'm only hoping is going to be a horror theme, then I can go to town and do something wicked. :) -Mike
RimRunner posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 9:09 AM
I like to try and give about 5 days for voting... but I also take into consideration folks who are doing complicated renders... Lets say Friday Midnight.. that should give your system enough time to choak it's way through it... but post if things are going bad and we'll see what we can do :)

Pyrographer posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 2:09 AM
I feel afraid... Very afraid... Don't hurt us tresamie. :) Honestly, sounds like it should be a good'un, can't wait. So, on average, how many people usually participate in these monthly contests now-a-days? -Mike
RimRunner posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 9:58 AM
It varies from month to month. Weve never had the turn out of say, the Bryce Forums monthly challenges, but we do a respectable volume. I wouldnt mind seeing more cross-platform challenges but with so many forums, so many challenges, its really easy to understand where some folks just dont have the time. :)
The doctor says I have way too much blood in my caffeine system.
tresamie posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 5:07 PM
When the challenge is posted in most of the forums, we get a nice turnout! As to my render...it's not that complicated, so I really don't understand why it is taking so long! Tres

Pyrographer posted Tue, 23 September 2003 at 1:49 AM
I wasn't even aware there were other challenge forums. I've had this bookmarked (along with the main page) for, uh, years, but didn't know of other challenge forums. This place is huge. :) Tresamie, without knowing more about your hardware and the image you're trying to render it's hard to say what could be causing the lag, it could be any number of things. Maybe when it's finished it'll be more apparant what about it could have taken so long. Looking forward to seeing it though. Regards, Mike
tresamie posted Tue, 23 September 2003 at 2:04 PM
There aren't other 'Challenge' Forums, but there are lots of other forums...some are software specific, or type specific (I belong to the Fractal forum and the Bryce forum). Many of those forums issue monthly challenges to their members. This is the only one I know that is open to any and all, including writers! My suspicion on my render is that it is taking forever because I can only render sporadically, and I am on Bryce with the DOF option! Tres
Fractals will always amaze me!
RimRunner posted Tue, 23 September 2003 at 2:47 PM
DOF in any application can really choak the processor. That and any type of Ray-Trace/Transparentcy. I had a Bryce image using crystals & water.. 10 minutes to setup (total experiment nothing fancy), 18+ hours to render on a dedicated system. DOH!
The doctor says I have way too much blood in my caffeine system.
Pyrographer posted Wed, 24 September 2003 at 12:47 AM
Ouch.. That IS a long time. I imagine your hardware has a lot to do with that though. I've done several rather complex renders on my new machine and none of them took more than 30-45 minutes. On my previous rig, they'd take at most an hour. But I'm not using Bryce most of the time, I use TrueSpace for most of my stuff. I need to find my Bryce CD and reinstall. I'm still putting things back together here, haven't done a Bryce piece in a long time. I've always found that most people are a lot better than I am with that particular program. Ah well.
RimRunner posted Wed, 24 September 2003 at 9:18 AM
Yeah, that's one reason I switched over to trueSpace as well... Anyway... getting back on track.. Tres, hows the render coming ? Not to call an end yet, as we're waiting for Tres... but I did want to change the voting a little. Since it's always so hard to pick just one... we're going to try something that's used in some of the other Forum Challenges.. Pick your 1st, 2nd and 3rd favs.. 1st = 3 points 2nd = 2 points 3rd = 1 point. Highest total points = Winner. Now.. I'll also be throwing in a small twist starting with Octobers challenge, to go through until Decembers... but that will be posted shortly after the start of Octobers challenge. :)
