We've just released a new beta of the Vue 4.2 Update. We're almost there...
This new beta mostly fixes issues with importing the new compressed PICT files used in Poser 5.
This is an incremental update from Vue 4.12.
You can download it here:
Vue 4.2 Beta Update for Macintosh
Vue 4.2 Beta Update for Windows
Enjoy!

is this just for to help p5 users or is it geared for pf also seeklight
e-on posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 1:20 PM
It's for both. The code that is being used is actually different whether you import from P4 or P5, but you won't see it. This was a real nightmare to setup, but it was the only way we could guarantee compatibility with both versions... Hope you like it. Steve

I've just downloaded the new beta update, and tried a few imports from poser 5.Everything comes in perfectly and renders ok so far. At last i can justify buying poser 5. I think i'll open a bottle of red, scrape the dust of my poser 5 manual and start playing. Cheers e-on (i'll blame you for the hangover at work tomorrow) Please don't keep us hanging on too long for more info on vue pro :-) Arry

What's your OS? Are you sure 4.2 is properly installed? When you click HELP-->ABOUT VUE can you see Vue 4.2? What kind of error message do you get?
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 3:04 AM
Hello Yes i get the 4.2 when i start vue, then when i try to inport a file save din poser i get... unable to read blah blah blah as its not a valid pz3 file and thats it thanks regards seeklight
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 3:09 AM
What's your OS? Try to creta a new poser file, save it as pz3 and import it to Vue. Does this one work?

I'm wondering if there's a difference between retail 4.12 and 4.12 as upgraded from Eon's site?
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:01 AM
Hello Well my copy is an upgrade from vue3 would you think that is the problem regards seeklight
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:07 AM
No, that's not the problem, because mine is also an update. But when you install Vue, you only should install Vue 4, not Vue 4 over Vue 3. Than you should update your copy to 4.12 FULL update. Make it run to see if every thing works fine. If yes, install 4.2.
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:10 AM
HEY GUITTA nO WHAT I DID WAS JUST INSTALL VUE4 I DONT HAVE VUE 3 ON MY MACHINE WHEN I START VUE 4 IT ASKS FOR THE SERIAL OF VUE3 BEFORE IT OPENS VUE 4 SEEKLIGHT
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:17 AM
Yes, that's normal, as it is an upgrade. In your registry you can see that both serials are mentionned, Vue 3 and Vue 4.
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:19 AM
Ok So what is going on then haHA poser is all updated what abotu if i install it before install mover
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:20 AM
I don't know.
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:33 AM
Well i uninstalled vue then reinstalled it and then applyed the 4.12 and all ok then i put in the 4.2 beta and i still get the message.. cannot open poser4/runtime/scripts/gateway/pz3 seeklight
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:38 AM
I even don't have such a file "/scripts/gateway/pz3" in my Poser 5 Runtime folder. Maybe if you rename this Gateway folder temporarly to another name...
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:54 AM
To be clear: I have a "Sripts" folder, but no "gateway" folder in there.
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 7:57 AM
yes i have a scripst folder and in that folder i have the pz3 file gateway
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 8:02 AM
As I don't have any gateway folder, this means that you don't need it. Just rename the folder to something else and see if it works then. Why should Vue search something in a gateway foder, as I have none?
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 8:05 AM
what i mena is in poser you have the script folders ok,now when you save what you are doign in poser i save it to the script folder now when i try and get it in vue it just refuses lol that happend with every file i save in side the poser script folder seeklight
gebe posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 8:09 AM
I never save in the script folder. Maybe if you save somewhere else? There must be a reason!
seeklight posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 8:12 AM
yer i tryed that also lol... bhohoooo i just doen knwo why, owell i geuss il saty with 4.12 thanks anyway guitta regards seeklight
Dale B posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 11:41 AM
Seeklight: Since E-on had to go with different code sections to keep both P4 and P5 import, is your P5 updated with SR-3? That could be one of the troubles, as that changed a few things.
seeklight posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 8:24 AM
No mate i dotbn ave p5 i use p4
Dale B posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 11:38 AM
Okay. The next thing I can suggest is reinstalling both, after saving your P4 runtime elsewhere to copy back into the new install, and likewise with Vue. But after uninstalling them, do a search in the windows tree for anything that has 'Vue' or 'Poser' in it. Registration tag files tend to get stuck into out of the way places, so that they aren't easy to find and copy. It's a anti-warez trick. You might also want to go into regedit (only if you are comfortable doing so; otherwise, get a geek to help), and search the entire registry tree for anything regarding vue and poser, and deleting any keys you find there. Your problem sounds like a corrupted linkage through your OS, and about the only way to get that fixed easily is to hunt out all of the linkages, delete them from the registry, -then- reinstall your applications. That way, so far as the operating system is concerned, these are new installs. If there is any garbage left when you uninstall them, the OS will treat a new install as a re-install, and link whatever is there into the reload, giving you your problem right back.

And what do you think e-onsoftware's support exists? Just write!
Dale B posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 2:57 PM
I would second gebe's suggestion. The current 4.2 is a beta release; there are still bugs in it, and possible system specific issues. Give them a rundown of what you have done, and a brief description of your system, so that they can see if this is replicable. The only way they can fix it is if they know about it.
