Wondering if Renderosity thought if doing a subscription service, Of course this part of the site would still be free I think, But a seperate part would be neat if it were similar to PW were you can go to get high quality stuff.

Doubt if it will ever happen...they make great money doing it just the way they do it. I wish I could make a product less than 5 dollars here tho :o(. Would be nice. Some folks just like small packages and I don't like to break anyone's pocketbook (especially my own!...LOL). Maybe a club-like thing where the products there are really cheap, like the Pro Club or Real Deals? Laurie

LaurieA that Pro Club and Real Deals are great ideas, I personally second them. I think it has a lot of potential. It is global market, and the RO merchants keep forgetting that what is $5.00 in the US it can be an equvalent of 20 times elswere... BonBonish

Is it the Renderosity administrators set the minimum at $5, and not the merchants?

How many others are there Illusions, i know of only PW and Poserstyle, i don't thinks it fair to count DAZ in the same catagory as you pay to pay, so to speak....not having a go at you there in case that looks wrong, i was just curious are there others..Steve

Wouldn't Props Club and Xena's Club be considered subscription services? Their approach is a little different (in that you don't have access to old items) but the principle seems the same: a subscription fee upfront and then you have access without an additional fee for the period of the subscription. Daz, I agree, is a different kind of thing. It's as if you are paying an entry fee, like a membership club, but you never stop having to pay something for the individual items in addition to that entry fee. I'm not saying that's good or bad. I belong to both kinds of services. Daz has market dominance in some areas, but I shop just as much elsewhere as I do there. I think it's a bind for the merchants. People demand high quality at minimum prices but the merchants would like, in an ideal world, to make back the time they invest in creating their items (and I don't think that is unreasonable, but it is a highly competitive market for some things that are the fad of the moment). Of course this is a topic that we've had discussed at length not too long ago, so I think I'll stop here, having already been redundant on the topic.

If Renderisoty thinks that a subscription-based model is a good one, they'll change over. They may take a poll to see what the members think... but probably not. One day, we'll all sign in and get a message that the site now requires a paid subscription: pay it or get lost. Gee, it would be just like the site change with its awful colors and drop-down boxes: like it or leave it.

"One day, we'll all sign in and get a message that the site now requires a paid subscription: pay it or get lost." JohnRender I say I would get lost... I got alot of items over at PW and even bought a few CD's (Wasn't happy with it due to the Cd's had almost the excat content on them with minor differences). If Rosity was to have a Platinum type club I might by into that.

Of course that is your value judgment on the colors and the drop-down boxes, which have nothing to do with this topic but some people can't leave a dead horse stinking on a single thread..they have to drag it into all conversation so the smell continues on. You are right about one thing. The administrators will do what they need to do. They are paying for what we enjoy. A few of us pay indirectly by purchasing from the Marketplace, but there are plenty of freeloaders who just use the services and make no contribution, monetary or otherwise. But that's the way of the world. Renderosity is not special in that regard. Off this thread. I've stepped over this dead horse so many times that I need a shower now.

What's Xena's club? (May as well collect the set - it's only money.)

Have the warehouse items opt into a props club for a couple of bucks each.
Caly posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 10:44 AM
Xena's Club can be found at bbay.com It's Club Z It's been great so far, she does all sorts of stuff. :) Yes, Renderosity could use a Real Deals/ Pro Club type of section with items under $5.

I think if R-Sity knows whats best they'll stay as far away from this backward question as possible. I never ever would have invested near as much of my efforts to this URL if it was'nt free! I've had nearly %99 of all my CG questions answred here, freely, for the past few years! In turn I have also answered every post I could offer posotive feedback to! In my opinion this is kind of a backward question. The marketplace may or may not have been a good idea, we'll have to wait for the ages to tell us what is there, though my guess is nien!

I believe some of you may have misunderstood Mesh Magick's original question, which was about a subscription service in addition to the existing 'Rosity we all know and love/hate/are indifferent to. Nothing to do with making the whole thing a pay site. My own opinion... What's the point? There are enough subscription sites to cater for most needs, and administrating such a thing would be one hell of a nightmare, given the number of independent merchants here. Rosity would have to employ their own modellers, which IMO would not be worth the returns.

hmm..how 'in addition' would it be, tho? Actually, when they sent out the survey recently, they asked about something like this..I'd have to give it a big negatory, since I can't pay over the web anymore (long story). The fact that you can get freebies, etc., is the only reason I can do this.

Makes sence, I guess if they don't need it and members are against it then out with it then I say.
