Hey all,
I got Bryce 5 about 4 months ago. Since then I have had a continuing problem with setting soft shadows in the Skylab. I change my Render quality to Premium and click the Softshadows option. Then also click the option for SS in the Skylab.
Often when I go back to the main screen and render the image, No soft shadows are there. I go back to the Sky lab and the Soft Shadows option is unchecked again. This can go on for a while.
I notice that sometimes if I just change the shadow amount from the main sky screen (not in the lab) then render again, SOMETIMES the soft shadows will show.
Anyone else have this issue? Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
I have the 5.01 patch, but haven't installed it yet. Will it help? I also notice a Lighting Patch at the corel site, but it doesn't mention this issue as one it addresses.
I'm stressin OUT!!!!!!!! Help.. heehee.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bruce

The patch would probably help, if not you should install it anyways just to prevent any problems you might have in the future. Dont know about the lighting patch tho.

Ahhh yes...this is a bug. Please do install the 5.01 patch. This will get you some really cool tree presets as well as fix some other bugs. For the soft shadows what you must do is start Bryce, go to sky lab and without changing ANYTHING other setting on the default sky, select the soft shadows box. Now save this as a sky preset. Name is something that you will remember. Now when you want to create a sky using soft shadows, start from your new preset and make your setting changes. Happy rendering! Peggy

The lighting patch is actually the Lightning patch and has to do with network rendering.

Peggey is correct, it is a bug that was never fixed during testing. But saving as a preset resolves the problem, is an annoying prob but that's the workaround.
Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Another problem, at least for me, is that the Sun SS setting doesn't get saved with the scene so I can't batch render them or even quit the app without having to start the render over. Best; Dan

Thanks again all. Peggys cure was spot on. This will save me from being put in a rubber room. -Bruce
