No, I'm not looking for any, I'm merely curious. I noticed that many of my own images are music related, with a large number taking their titles from song lyrics or song titles. I don't often try to interpret a specific song in my images but I find the broad stroke of a song's idea can be a great catalyst for things floating around in my own mind. How about you people?

I get inspiration from many sources, but almost always it is words that give me the image, whether it be from a song, a poem, a quote in a book, or even sometimes just a chance remark from a friend that starts the creative juices flowing.

Before retiring each night I consume a heavy supper of salami, cheese and pickles. Upon awakening I jot down as much of the inevitable nightmare as I can remember. Using this ploy I recently came up with the Comfy Shoes for Vicki. The full transcript of the dream is under consideration by the well known director Kamera Obscura who assures me that he will only need to tone down a couple of scenes to get it passed with an X rating :)

LOL...my inspiration always comes from my past, things that I have experienced or seen that was so powerful, I think of them still today. I think that is why I do so much with children vs. adults....Sharen

Well, if you have seen any of the characters i come up with you may note that I am quite a horror buff (literature and movies)...so alot of my character creations come out of there. But alot of my "other art" comes from things I see in life and want to explore deeper....for example if I run across something of a grotesque nature I keep at the painting till I uncover the beauty behind it. This exploration is largly a spiritual journey for me. I explore the contrasts (good in the evil, beauty in the ugly, dark in the light etc.) Rawnrr

I to get inspiration from songs sometimes all it takes is 1 word...I hope to one day, to be able to produce a very particular image from a phrase that's been floatin around my brain for hmmm years?!?! my favorite movie! Im still rather new to Poser and the 3D world..but Im learning!

LOL @ PhilC... I often get inspired by music but not titles or words specifically... more by the mood, or the general theme. I often find pictures coming into my head when I'm drifting off to sleep, all disconnected. A view through a door, we see on old desk on which rests a marble, a rat, a human heart. A child with wings imprisoned in a metal pyramid. Other views come direct from dreams or nightmares. Some of these images are beyond my current skill level, but I keep hold of the idea, polishing it until I think I'm up to the attempt. If I run short of inspiration for a while, then I try and set myself a task to make something with a recent purchase or freebie, just to practise my lighting and composition skills (what skills, haha :-D )

There is one piece of music I really want to make into an image, but it's gonna be damned hard work to realise it as I want. The piece is "Jupiter, the bringer of jollity" from Holt's Planets Suite. It's the most strikingly visual composition I have ever heard, one listen can put a smile on my face for days.

Depends on which inspiration you mean. Basic idea type inspiration comes from everywhere; passing comments, memories, what-ifs, situations, books you name it. And the occasional Playboy, Penthouse, and tiptoe through certain Usenet groups for pose ideas.... >:) The working inspiration, what leads me where in an illo or scene, comes from music. My working repetoire consists of most of Yanni's works, The 4 Dagda CD's, Afrocelt Sound System (or Afrocelts as they are calling themselves now), Loreena McKennett, Joeme Wilson, Lesiem, and the odd movie score, the more sweeping and orchestral the better (Conan-or just about anything that Basil Poledouris does, LotR, The Alamo, How the West Was Won, Krull, Gladiator, etc). And it isn't really playing when working. That can be distracting. I get a piece started, then decide what feel I want, select the music that generates that 'feel' in the back of my head, and have it ready. When I hit a bump, I stop and listen, and something usually comes out.

Black and white photography, and music. While I've been making a living as a photographer for 30+ years, I have a huge collection of fine art books, and prints from other B&W artist, that I spend hours with. Music is a very strong influence on me...I'll be listing to Bach on my headset, while I'm waist deep in water, composeing the image on the ground glass of my 8x10 camera at 6:00AM in the Fla.Everglades. While CG is relatively new to me, I still find photos give me the most inspirations. This link is to color photos(nudity)that I've been spending a lot of time viewing...with Poser in mind. My main inspiration comes from the actual models I'm using. I play with them: dress them, pose them, render them often dozens of times until they start talking to me. It's a very subconscious thing usually. I work on a scene until it tells me its title. Once that happens I can finish it. Actually the same in Bryce. I also start from an idea many times, but what the scene ends up to be is almost always something totally different from what I set out to do. It's spooky.

My Muse is an eclectic lady...she throws me ideas from all over the place, only a fraction of which I've realized visually. Some of my sources include characters from my old AD&D or other RPG games (the good ol' pen & paper days), video games I've played, conversations with friends...sometimes just a phrase from the right person will catch a spark... I try to always leave my mind open...something usually wanders in. :-) CT

Rawnrr said:" This exploration is largly a spiritual journey for me. I explore the contrasts (good in the evil, beauty in the ugly, dark in the light etc.)" I knew there was a reason I have all your textures.:))I approach Poser the same way. Well, my favorite Mike is Nzrac textured with Demonicus-- and he's an intellectual hero! My favorite heroine is stephanie Haute Goth textured with Rawnrr's Bone. When I was doing some sci-fi-- the heros were the bots and the villians were, well, us. It's a challenge to try to convey goodness and emotion in places where people don't expect to see it. And, it feels good to do that. I still have to do my orc librarian-- ghost's orc, bit easier to go introspective than sixtus's:)) I still do pinups though and plain gothy stuff cause I simply like them. Emily

While I have on occasion had ideas from the work of others that look fun to try, generally, I just have happy accidents like that 'fro guy, Ross, says. If I can't think of anything to do, I just fire up the apps and work on technique. If something comes of it, great. The steel dragon I posted over at 3DC last night was something that started out with trying to light up an imported 3d Knotts object and then it led to skylab and I just thought it needed a dragon in there. That's it. Just nothin but goofing around and happy accidents and if I have nothing to show then maybe I've learned a new trick or two along the way.Kendra posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 9:57 PM

Most of mine comes from those voices in my head...insistant little creatures.... I'm also way depressed and pissed off at the world, and actually quite dismayed at the state of humanity after thousands of years.... so if you really look at my images and peer beyond the surface, you will see emotion which is deeper than what behold the eye. As I am starting to actually get hold of the tools present in Poser and some of the other creative apps I use, hopefully I can realize my potential and begin to actually convey some of the feelings present within myself. I spend a lot of mental time in the 1930's and 40's, with books and old radio shows. That's where my furniture comes from. For scripts, I get ideas by answering questions here. (The best way to learn something new is to play the role of teacher!)

hrm... Everywhere. I keep two idea lists: Stories and Images. I'll peruse these everyonce in a while to get these done. But initially most of my ideas come from dreams. Some come from experience others from tv(Dignified came from a photograph of henry kissinger(the eyes are my favorite part of that image) Most of my recent images have come from dnd, my most recent can be seen in thumbnail form at http://arpl.org right in the top right hand corner. This was all post work (I went all out with it) and I'll get it up on my webpage soon. It was a dnd experience. Cartoons, music, sci fi, fantasy, writing...I said everywhere. Some times the models themselves. I'm working on one that the Daz Skrit just screamed to be made. My In fall was my first vicky pic and it was how I saw her at the time.
