Simple still-life in Firefly. This is actually two firefly renders (one with all lights set to raytraced shadows, the other with all lights set to depth-map shadows) which are afterwards alpha blended in order to get the shadows this way. Some raytraced shadows are much to sharp for my taste. However, sometimes depth-mapped shadows are just not satisfactory. For example, raytraced shadows are necessary in order to produce the wineglass shadows at all. Here the raytraced shadows are all present, but softened by the blend with the depth-map shadows. Perhaps this is a well-known technique, but it just occurred to me when I was playing around with this test scene, so I thought I'd share. Incidentally, the objects are all quicky modeling jobs in Wings3D and the textures are all P5 procedurals.

I can't see your image (might be my firewall here at work) but it sounds like an interesting technique and one I hadn't considered before, thanks for sharing!

That's a very nice image. Well done. I especially love the glass and the reflections on the glass. Care to give us a tut on how to make the glass?
