sorry that doesn't look like m2
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 7:57 AM
You're right. If he was to look like m2 out of the box, I'd need to chop his verts in half, widen his neck to the point of stupidity and then give him bigger boobs than Voluptous Vicki. I never said it was supposed to look a bit like M2. I just said it was like a bodytype he could easily HAVE. Everyone's been complaining about m3 having no bodyfat. There you go. Good m2-like base.

Not bad at all! Before reading your post I was thinking that you had already placed M3 head on the old M2 body...
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 8:26 AM
I wish. I'm not that talented, Staby. I'd gladly have one of those, simply so my poor Mikey doesn't have to run around naked. (I'm poor. Not enough money to buy him some clothes, so he's naked for now.)

Wow, that's great. Thanks! I love M3, but I hate those strangely high shoulders, and had no clue how to fix them.

They're the trapazoids, Randy. You can bulk them up or shrink them down with TrapsSmall/Trapazoid(I think)

"You want him to look like m2?" Not necessarily :-) we just DONT want him to look like a Femmed up girly man as he does in his default state
Ghostofmacbeth posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 9:58 AM
That is the thing . It is the default state .. It can be changed but people are so loathe to turn dials other than "musclular 3" and then say it doesn't look exactly like Mike 2's Muscular 3 so it must be wrong ... Khrys, I would also say you should turn the hip narrow dial a little and the lats up a little but looks pretty good. As you said you need to turn the neck to really wide and turn the pecs up a bunch too ;)

Hm, what I don't get is why should M3 look exactly like M2? If he would where is the point in having a new model when it's just a replica of the old? And he comes with so many dials, I think you should be able to try how some of his morphs work together to get the look you desire - it's not that difficult ;-).

My thoughts exactly, Puntomaus. But so many peoplecoughDirkcough are complaining about how he looks nothing like M2 that I decided to 'rectify' that. And as you can see, some people coughDirkcough don't find it good enough, still. Some people are just never pleased.

Would things have been less ... intense if they had produced M3 first, then V3 from the same starting mesh? (Remembers the Stephanie wars and shudders.)
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 1:03 PM
Yes, probably. But Stephanie proved that it would work. I think she's what gave Daz this idea. Personally, I /like/ the idea of a unimesh. Mike is a /base/ people. Play with the dials until you get them to the level you like! And if you can't get it to do what you want, contact me. Or anyone else on the forums. We might be able to help with a custom morph or something. Not everyone's good at making characters, I know. Not everyone's good at morphing. Not everyone's good at texturing or building stuff. I, personally, cannot build an object to save my life. I have to bug other people. But then there are other people who can't morph who bug me. That's the great thing about this medium, folks. We work together to make beautiful art!

I can't experiment with M3 myself because he crashes my MAC and some of his polygons are wacky. (I still haven't heard back from DAZ tech yet. sob) :( Anyhoo, I had 2 thoughts for people who don't like the Unimesh, and prefer M2's shape, muscles, and face to M3's: 1) Massive Mike 2) The M3 to M2 figure Since I'm not into body building, and I don't use body builder shapes in Poser, I'm no expert on body building. I wouldn't know realistic from deformed, so I'll trust the opinion of those who know more about body building and muscle shapes than I do. So from those people, I would like to know what they think about Massive Mike, what they love able Massive Mike, and how they would like to improve Massive Mike. Perhaps if there are large number of people wanting a body builder mesh based on body builder's build like M2, why not ask DAZ to make an upgrade for Massive Mike? Perhaps DAZ could do a new UV map of Massive Mike get get the better realism V3 and M3 have. Perhaps Massive Mike can get Injection Morphs too. Maybe even adding polygons to the joints would be possible. Sound like a plan? I also want to point out M3 does come with M2's shape, he's the M3 to M2 figure. One could just spawn a morph of M2 and throw that in the mix when injecting M3's muscle morphs. Thoughts? bB

I'd like to see the shape of M3 to M2 provided regrouped like M3... with some slight improvements to shoulders, etc. and with the morphs... pipe dream, I know...
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 2:53 PM
Alas, Bijou, I think it is. But we can dream, huh? Personally, I just want a Poser man to come to life and do anything I ask. But with my luck I'd get the Dork.

I wonder what the ETA is for the updates to M3's mesh to fix the bugs. After that and a better head morph pack, I think he'll be highly comparable to V3.
PapaBlueMarlin posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:09 PM
LOL... I find it hilarious. When V3 came out, DAZ made a big boo-boo and had to update her. She also had a much better head pack than M3. Where did the germanic morph go? That was the one I use the most with V3. I like M3. But his shoulders are off, the pitts are skewed and there is something up with the elbows. These are pretty obvious bugs. It also seems like there has been nothing free uploaded for M3. When V3 came out, there were free clothing for her.
wrpspeed posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:10 PM
what? is there going to be a service pack for mike3 already?
PapaBlueMarlin posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:12 PM
Who knows... look at the mesh in certain places and you can tell that there should be.
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:12 PM
Uh, M3 has his problems, Cherokee. I said that, myself. I'm just sick of everyone whining about how he looks like crap before they even turn the dial on him. If you're sick of the topic, quit reading.

PapaBlueMarlin posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:14 PM
BTW, the M3 and V3 head packs are the same price (without the sale discount) when M3 has less head morphs...
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:16 PM
People use /one/ dial and they expect it to fix everything. Mike's got a LOT of dials, people. When m2 first came out, it was all love and joy? Yeah right. When Michael came out? People complained about him, too. He'll get better. It just takes a bit of mass betatesting, if you will. And yeah. Mike was more expensive for less stuff. That /did/ irritate me to no end...

PapaBlueMarlin posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:18 PM
I like M3 Khrys, but his mesh does seem like a work in progress. That aside, you can get good results if you resolve yourself to use the young and skinny body morphs in association with the muscle morphs :)
cherokee69 posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:19 PM
"But his shoulders are off, the pitts are skewed and there is something up with the elbows. These are pretty obvious bugs." Oh but Jeremy (now understand, I agree with you)..people don't see those problems..they say it's because of the way we pose M3 that's causing it.
cherokee69 posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:21 PM
"People use /one/ dial and they expect it to fix everything. Mike's got a LOT of dials, people." Oh yeah, and I've tried them all to maybe do something about the body problems, but those same dials increase the visibility of the problems with the mesh.
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 5:28 PM
In part, Cherokee, yeah, it could be. Sure as heck isn't saying it is OR isn't. I've noticed flaws. But I've also noticed a majorly improved mesh shape and a lot of people damn determined to ruin something before it has a chance out the gate, just because it shares a base mesh with Vicki. It's /not/ Vicki's mesh. If anything, Vicki's m3, heavily altered, not the other way around. And when v3 came out, she had her joint problems. DAZ fixed them, right? Well, they will with this, too. And if they don't, someone else will and they'll make a killing off the profit.

I'm not afraid to fool around with the dials, but there are so many. Takes awhile to figure out what they all do.
Anyway, thanks very much. Personally, my taste leans more toward the Gray Davis type than to Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I want to know how to make Mike look like anybody.
