Here is a quick character shot of one of the bad guys. I just did a quickie poser test. No bump map applied yet and I have to tweak the texture a touch. Yes he has a lame grip on the sword and dagger but it was a quickie pose. Also plan on doing some other stuff after I export it to Bryce. The transmap on the hair looks kinda lame against the grey too but I didn't really look at before I quit the program. Orc Warrior .. Here you go

Roshigoth posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 12:41 PM

Wow! That looks really good... Can't wait to see the end result. I can barely see his hair against the gray, so I can't really comment on the transmap. =) Perhaps he could be a tinge greener? Just a possibility. Awesome detail on the face and eyes especially. =) All in all, very impressive. =) Rosh

Yeah .. The grey kinda matches the hair a little two well. That is the problem :) I am making him Tolkien which is more Grey than Green .. Warhammer made them green and D&D gave them pig heads. Go figure :) Basically they should be are varoius shades of grey and grey black. Have a few other face textures and he is missing the bump maps to punch it even further but think he turned out well. Morphing him from scratch was kind of interesting too. Silly ears were a pain but fortunately I found someone to use Morph Mirror on his head. Have another 20 some figures to show as well ... geesh. And thanks!

Yeah, now that I think of it, I remember something like Tolkein's orcs were perverted versions of elves or something similar.. that's what this guy looks like, an elf from hell. =) Yeah, morphing is a pain.. what do you use to morph? (And what's Morph Mirror?) Rosh

Cool character - though it looks (to me) more like one of the cannabilistic elves from TSR's (now defunct) Dark Suns setting than anyhing from LOTR. Hmm - which kind of fits with Rosh's "Elf from Hell" comment... :-) I've always thought green orcs looked strange; greyish or ruddy orc seem more appropriate.

Ghostofmacbeth posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 1:39 PM

Yep ... He is a dengenerated elf from hell ... "Twisted and evil, as dark as the elves were light. There once fair shapes turned foul and twisted" or something like that at least. I use Ray Dream to morph. And morph mirror is a thing that flips morphs so you only have to do one side. Kinda glitchy supposedly but it worked for me. Or for someone else did it for me, actually. http://www.eurus.dti.ne.jp/~masasi/PROGRAM/MTmirrorU.html

Ghostofmacbeth posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 2:19 PM

Well he is one of the more human ones .. Actually one of Uruk-Hai. They are taller and more fair than the normal Uruk. Plus they have better teeth :) Have some of the others too but didn't render them out yet .. Was just doing a weird test ... And thanks Charlie ...

He still looks great. Didn't mean to be nitpicking. I use Rhino for morphing, and don't do much of that these days.. Thanks for the link. =) Keep this up, they really do look wonderful. =) Rosh

Fantastic work Ghostofmacbeth, I'm a bit out of the Poser loop, this far exceeds anything I could ever do, . Creating morphs? I wouldnt even know where to begin doing something like that. I have RayDream , But cant make heads or tales of it. Great work Hawkfyr

Excellent work! Great face and everthing else, too, for that matter.

Wizzard posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 2:19 AM

Hawk, If I read Trav's tut right... you bring in the poser obj.. delete everything save where you're working... pull the mesh to where you want it when the dial's set to 1.. then export it as an MT/obj... then apply to the figure.... I may be highly mistaken.. but that's what I remember from it... Cheers, Wizzard

Ghostofmacbeth posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 11:05 AM

Wizzard .. Kind of but not realy. hawkfyr. Basically you bring in the base obj for the figure. The one with gentitals and all that. When loading it in you have to make sure that you keep proportions and there is one other button to click. one group per mesh or something like that. Click into the face, for example, and tweak out bits and pieces. pulling and pushing the points to make what you want. When done you clck the done button and save as wavefron. It should save only what you have played with. You also have to make sure you have a couple of patches to be able to do all that. Then if you import it it will be dialed to 1 to have what you made. I recommend trying something simple, like a broken nose, at first. And thanks Wynter

Hawkfyr posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 1:37 PM

I copied and save that info Ghost and I'llcheck out the tutorial also. Thanks guys. So I basically In RayDream, I just open the Poser.obj file from the Poser3/Runtime/geometries folder? Or do I export the figure from Poser as.obj? then open it in RayDream. Oh And What Patches do I need? Thanks again Guys Hawkfyr

Ghostofmacbeth posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 3:25 PM

It is very basic info but good luck. And what I do is make a copy from the geometries folder. Just in case I goof it and all. If you export it won't work. There is a 3 part patch set. I am not positive what is needed to be honest. Not sure if you can still find them since they have kind of dwindled support to say the least but there is: Something to upgrade a version number. A poser to Ray Dream patch and a Ray Dream obj patch. I have the actual files at work but they are the ones for mac but they would help you find the files maybe. Good luck

Hawkfyr posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 6:26 PM

I Forgot to mention I'm only running Poser 3 with the patch. I believe I remember saying "yes" to install plug in for Ray dream When installing the Patch. Is that one part of the three patches? Thanks for all the info Ghost. Hawkfyr

Ghostofmacbeth posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 6:55 PM

I hope so ... Not totally sure but I think it is. Been a while and it was before I knew about morphs basically

Hawkfyr posted Sun, 30 July 2000 at 7:01 PM

I just tried to open the .obj file from the geometries folder and it said "format not supported, I guess I 'll go search for the patches. BTW this is Ray Dream 3D not Ray Dream Studio. I got it free from some magazine offer some time ago so I dont have much along the lines of a manual. Hawkfyr
