You can make the thickness less more than zero if you apply the material in the "object front" mapping mode. This will act as if the cutout is applied to the front of the object as a decal. So it will look great!

thanks for the help madmax, I found where the "object front"was but when I applied it it didn't enhance. Could you please be more detailed with what you mean.. I'm a newbie TIA Ken

This is how I make most of the rough surfaces in my images, like brick walls and the like. It's a great method and if you use the same image you made the terrain from for the texture it looks perfect, or close enough to. 8) Catlin
