I ran a virus scan on my PC today and it came up reporting two infected files. Both of them were files that contained purchases I had downloaded from Renderosity. The virus scanner reported that they had hidden extensions: they appeared to be .zip files but were in fact .zip.exe. One of them I had already opened with no apparent ill-effects, and it may be this is a needless scare. For this reason, I do not post here the names of the files or products, as I don't want possibly to prejudice the vendors involved, who I have no doubt are totally innocent. Nevertheless, it might be an idea to look into why these hidden extensions have been found.

Have you notified the staff too? They may want to look into this. Sure sounds bad :o( My main mailbox is currently being totally mail-bombed by that &#%& SWAM worm :o( - I'm getting 3-400 emails a day :o(

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Are you sure they are not install programs fro the product?

If they were, it's darned silly to put a double extension on them. Besides afaik RMP only accepts zip, not .exe becourse of the danger of virii.

Ernyoka1 is correct. Also, the one that I previously opened, opened as a normal zip, not with an installer.

Zip programs have the option of making a self extracting zip file that has a exe extension for those that don't have a zip program. I don't like downloading them, and would be quite upset about buying something here that wasn't a .zip. The only store I accept .exe from is DAZ3D.

The "exe-zips" still have only ONE extension. They're just .exe, not .zip.exe And "zip-exe's" can be opened with Winzip to check them for any oddities :o) Not that I would like to download them either, but sometimes they're a good idea.
