2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-para-dioxin I found the prop on Zippo's site and remembered that somebody here was looking for models of chemical formulas. I wouldn't mind getting either chocolate or caffeine models, but can't remember what the original poster was searching for. Carolly the Curious

I doubt you'd want to eat any of this stuff. :) It's called TCDD, the most toxic of the 75 related forms of dioxin, an extremely hazardous waste material.

My MAKEMOL utility makes posable Poser models of molecules. It is at this link and in the freestuff.

"hauksdottir: yes... very nasty stuff. Just LOOK at what it did to Micky Mouse in your original pic....!" Zig, it is not nice to make someone laugh when they are drinking. Let me tell you, tea down the nose is not pleasant at all. :)

Yup, eyes on the outside and ears on the inside. Nasty stuff. ;p Russel, Thanks for telling me what that one was. I remember dioxin as a major cause of wildlife deaths. Anthony, Hmm... with your app and bit of time, I could whip up almost anything known to science? :) Carolly

have you tried redrawing the compound in ACD Sketch? Download the program for acdlabs.com. You can find the structure of your dioxin or caffeine on chemfinder.com. Then convert to a 3d image. I don't think it will export as a 3d object, but you can paste it in an image using photoshop. Also, the program has some template structures and is completely free...

ISTR that form of dioxin is a by-product of using diphenyl (with impurities) in high-voltage transformers. When the transformer burns, explodes or degrades, they used to dump the remaining liquid (the part that didn't leak, spill or vaporize) in a pit, lake, river, bay or ocean. Nowadays they partially burn it, which usually allows some poly-aromatic hydrocarbons to be broadcast into the atmosphere. Then they dump the char (which still contains large amounts of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons) into a pit. The people who work at those facilities tend to die of cancer at age 30-40.
