Hi just being palying about with correct reference and the only 3 textures it couldn't find were referenced as a bump map and 2 other texures refering to a Wyvern.(The only wyvern I've ever installed is the new one from Daz) Now it struck mae as strange that the wyvern had no bump map when I installed it what I was wondering was is it my download or are there not supposed to be any bumps? thanks Dave

I'm curious about this, also, as bump maps aren't mentioned at all on the webpage.

I'd prefer a four-legged version, myself, but I'm still seriously considering a purchase, since it bears a striking resemblance to me (aside from the missing limbs).

You could try asking the author, I suppose; Debra seems to visit Renderosity frequently, although she doesn't post here in the forum.

I just rendered Wyvern. True, no bump maps, but the MAT creates a dimensional looking skin for the creature. It's quite a lovely beastie, in my view.

dialyn posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 8:18 PM

Here's a quick render...don't hold this against Wyvern. I was trying to show different parts of him but I gave him an awfully awkward pose. Still, maybe you can see the nice detail of the model. By the way, there are lots of adjustments you can make to Wyvern to give him different looks. I like this beastie all in all.

I thought the lack of front legs was one of the defining characteristics of a wyvern? Besides the stinger, that is. Hmm, I'll have to go count my pennies... Even tho the thing looks like a wet chicken, I think I could see it happily chomping my heroes' horses in a render.

hauksdottir posted Mon, 29 September 2003 at 9:58 PM

Yup... wyverns ONLY have 2 legs and that is the way they are supposed to be. Anatomically it makes more sense, too. Hmm.. decent-looking except he apparently suffers from the same damned problem as almost all the other 3d meshes of bat-winged beasties: having a finger come from what is the elbow. Come on guys! Those ribs in the wings are long bony fingers and should all spring from one point. Carolly

Just opened the package to an empty folder. Excluding RSRs it contained: Two texture maps (wyverngreen and wyvernbrown), a template, 4 MAT poses (none of which refers to a bump map), CR2 (no bump map ref here either) and 11 poses. Looks like CorrectReference must have been refering to a diferent model. -- Mark

Oh, forgot to mention the geometry OBJ of course. -- Mark

Can't find it in my current Runtime, but I think someone did a free wyvern some time ago, maybe that's what Correct Reference is finding - doesn't it give you the CR2 name associated with the missing textures?

yggdrasil posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 7:40 AM

Not free, but the PhilC dragon is a wyvern, perhaps that's where the reference comes from? (I don't have it, so can't check).

hi thanks guys I'll check out the cr2 name when I get home (at work now) It's just apart fron antons which is called dragon I don't remember downloading any other wyvern. Dave

I haven't bought it yet (plan to while sale is still up), but would love to see different tail options, notably a scorpion-like stinger (that's the (A)D&D version). Wondering if I could cut off the DAZ/Noggin's scorpion stinger and glue it to this poor beast... Hubert Holin

dialyn posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 8:25 AM

The tail has 15 posable segments. The little thorny parts can't be shrunk and expanded the way the horns on the head can be, but the tail has a lot of flexibility of movement built in.

dialyn posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 8:31 AM

I can't believe I'm making myself late to work so that I can show off a Wyvern's tail.

dialyn, that last tail image strikes me as awful cute. :)

Hmm.. decent-looking except he apparently suffers from the same damned problem as almost all the other 3d meshes of bat-winged beasties: having a finger come from what is the elbow. Come on guys! Those ribs in the wings are long bony fingers and should all spring from one point. That isn't a finger, it's an elbow spur. You can tell the difference because unlike the fingers it isn't supposed to be articulated. It evolved for additional structural support of the wing membrane.

Hi dunno where correct ref got it's info from just reinstalled wyvern and ran CR and got loads more don't know that tex messages than I did last night! Oh well....I like the figure but for the pic I have in mind he/she needs to be more ....calculating ....a bit like a falcon looking at it prey! thanks guys now off to see what he looks like in bryce Oh and I think I agree with LD re the elbow spines. I just wish the makers of reign of fire had used Dragons Not Wyverns...good effects wrong creature. Dave

Debra posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 2:51 PM

Thanks everyone for all the compliments on the Wyvern. I didn't make a bump map for the wyvern, At the time I started making the textures I bought DeepPaint 3d and was having too much fun learning the program and painting the Wyvern textures, and forgot to make a bump map for him. I'll post a free bump map within the week. (Maybe some new tail morphs too :). ) I'll post a message in product showcase when it's up.

Little_Dragon posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 4:41 PM

Thanks, Debra.

Any chance of you making a four-legger in the same style, as an add-on or separate figure? Pretty please?

Redfern posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 5:28 PM

Gosh, LD, you sound like me with my fondness for felinoid females. Is the figure THAT close to your mental image of your avatar (barring the missing limbs issue, of course)? Sincerely, Bill

Tempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!

Little_Dragon posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 6:21 PM

It's practically a ringer, especially with that brown texture.

dialyn posted Tue, 30 September 2003 at 9:13 PM

I had to put them together.

Debra posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 3:00 PM

Ok Little Dragon, I'll see what I can come up with, :). I I have something to finish up for the Halloween season first, so it'll be a few weeks yet before I come up with a 4 legged version.

Little_Dragon posted Wed, 01 October 2003 at 10:25 PM

Thank you again. Looking forward to it.

I have a free bump map up on my home page for the Wyvern, just go to the free models section - the link is at the very bottom of the page. (Still working on those tail morphs :) ) Here's my home page addy: http://home.wmis.net/~dross
