When I imported this item it came showing all black. I have tried different lighting but still same results. Here is what it looks like in max

Does it show up correctly in Poser's preview or it black there too?

Double-sided (duplicated) polygons can sometimes render black in P5. You might also check that your lights are on and facing in the direction of your object - I had that happen once - mysteriously, all my lights were turned off, but still showed in the parameters as being on.

First of all, when you import, the only options you should use are the size/position ones (the first 3 boxes). Uncheck 'make normals consistent'. Alternately, if you had that one unchecked, try checking it. Secondly, if you have uv mapper, open the obj in it. Resave the obj without normals and try it. You could also try using 'split vertices' on it. mac PS max's uv mapping sucks.

You might also check that your lights are on and facing in the direction of your object. I tried true global lighting and still shows up black Double-sided (duplicated) polygons can sometimes render black in P5. How do I figure out if it is double sided? A couple of questions. Did you assign materials to the different parts in max? Or are they all just different colors? If there are no materials, poser will assign a single preview material to the whole obj at random. Second. Does the object have any uv mapping at all? If so, have you tried putting a texture on it? Something similar happened to me with a program called plant studio. I discovered that, for some bizarre reason, it was switching the color values, and instead of setting the Object color, I had to use ambient. This was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure, but I think it had something to do with me exporting as 3ds and not obj. Mind you, I always export from max as 3ds and convert to obj in poser and I've never had a problem yet. In fact, I find 3ds a lot more stable and trouble-free. mac

I just thought about this. I'm convinced that this is caused by something you've done in max. Try this. Export a simple box from max to poser, 3ds or obj, and see what happens. If the problem is there, it's something to do with the poser import options. If the box is OK, you've done something to your other model in max that poser doesn't like. Could be anything. Splines, mesh collapse, who knows? Is it made out of primitives or what? mac

'Assigned different Colors' Assigning different colors in max will do nothing in poser. When poser sees no materials, it just assigns one Preview material to the entire object. Therefore, your whole model will be one single color. Now, poser assigns this preview color at random, and it's possible, just possible, that when you imported it, poser assigned black to the whole thing. The color is random, so it can be anything at all. Maybe try another import and see if it changes. mac

Oh well, at least you got it working. One of these weird things that happens, I suppose. mac

No, that is not so weird... I have met this when making a sailor skirt...the colar turn into a black hole... When making model in max..the terrible thing is 2 face model... But if i find out a way to elimiate this in max...The UVMapper u use in Poser...is a kind of Multi-Sub object Material in max...so, just apply it in Max and u will not encounter any problems in Poser..
