Hey there .. Just wanted to post a quick collection of some things I am working on for that huge scene. A bunch of Orcs from Tolkien. Still working on some stuff and the poses took all of 5 minutes so they have loose hands etc. Just showing the progress.. Let me know what you think please. Thanks http://GhostofMacbeth.3dworlds.org/OrcMontage.jpg

I really like the face close-ups. Very bestial and savage looking. One thought - aren't these kind of Orcs mostly nocturnal? If so, the eyes should probably be a little larger and maybe somewhat luminous (faint yellow ambient color, perhaps?). It would also fit in with the pale complexion. Though I THINK the "low orcs" were the nocturnal ones and the Uruk Hai you're doing were less limited. It's been YEARS since I read these, and I've played a lot of AD&D and read a lot of Warhammer stuff, so I could easily be confused here!

They are mostly nocturnal but they derive their ability to see in the dark from their elven forfathers. They have little red eyes and some even have slits more than anything else. And you are right. The lower orcs had more limited capabilities. The Uruk-Hai could take the sun though they didn't like it. There is a mix of Uruk and Oruk in the picture above. Mostly the Uruk have better weapons and stand more upright and are generally more human. The Oruk are the loincloth-clad ones. Longer arms and more pronounced features. Need to probably play witht he texture more on them. They are a different map for each but it isn't as defined as I thought.

Now that you mention it, the I remember the tiny red eyes comment... I wonder how they're described in Middle Earth Role Playing?

Dunno .. I would have gotten to it eventually but doing a 22 figure scene probably would have been further back. I mean I like Tolken, always have, but I do think it pushed me. Plus I can use it for other stuff S And thanks

The Grand Reapearance Of Tempest Well, maybe not all that grand, closer to a modest reapearance but still. Many appologies for my quite sudden and complete dissapearance, but I'm back for a while at the very least. As for the challenge, I had nearly forgotten about it but what I've seen so far is absolutely outstanding, far better than anything I could have hoped to have accomplished (considering my very meek Poser skills). They look very evil, keep up the good work. Tempest

Glad to see you back Tempest ... This is only a portion of what I have but it is progressing. So where you been? S Hope everything is alright ... Later
