At once for the PC. This is the dumb, and ticks me off. I don't want to make monthly payments for Poser stuff. I don't want monthly withdrawals on anything automate. No one eles seems bothered by this. I had to put money in pay pal just so I can pay for my membership renewal. They are pushing the monthly thing thats for sure. :O(

I don't want to go monthly and it's going to cost me 10 on top of the renewal cost to get a cheque made payable in dollars if I pay the annual fee. I really wish I could just use my credit card like I did when I joined the PC club. But fortunately, I have until next June to renew, so hopefully it will have changed by then.

DAZ's Visa/MasterCard processing company won't let them sell an annual membership through them. You can use American Express or Discover, as well as PayPal.

"DAZ's Visa/MasterCard processing company won't let them sell an annual membership through them." It seemed to work fine last October when I first signed up. So what changed? Not really pleased with this turn of events. :(

Yeah, I don't care for that either. My membership expires in 10 days and I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet. DAZ certainly makes good stuff, but I don't quite understand why so many things there are so overly confusing. The bonus packages are nice, but the vouchers don't seem particularly useful and without Anton, it's hard to imagine what types of new products will be available in the future. I don't know, the whole thing is just a bit more frustrating than it probably should be. ; Take care. SnowS

What happen to Anton?? I'm really getting bogged down by so much stuff, a lot I never use at all. I guess I'm a complusive Poser buyer, I bought all Mike3 stuff, and I really don't know why? Since I hardley ever use men in my renders.

According to DAZ, their credit card processing company was charging a very high fee to allow them to put big annual club purchases on the card, because if DAZ were to discontinue the club or go out of business (neither of which is likely, but the CC company doesn't know that), there would be a rash of chargebacks that would be very, very costly. In order to keep their own costs lower, DAZ had to do away with letting people put an annual renewal on their Visa card. That's what Steve said about the change a few months ago, anyway. bonni

Anton posted in a thread a few days ago that he is no longer with DAZ. They still have the very talented texture artists like Lisa, but I wish I could see what sorts of actual models will be going into the PC in the future before my membership expires. Aw well. ;) SnowS

Will be quite a while before I open another bank account to get a Visa CC so I can buy stuff a few $$ cheaper at one particular store. They must be out of their silly little minds. Pay Pal is no option at all, they make money disappear (twice now) and their attitude of "cross that ocean and sue us if you can" smells slightly criminal to me. So it's bye bye to the PC, I refuse to pay for the privilige of shopping in a store.

Silke posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 2:04 AM

I've emailed them about it already. I did renew via paypal, but emailed them about not being happy about being unable to use a card accepted everywhere else in the store for it. "DAZ's Visa/MasterCard processing company won't let them sell an annual membership through them." So does that mean there is a middleman when it comes to card processing? I'm not sure how merchant accounts work, but as far as I am aware there is no processing company involved who dictates rules to you since that's done with the bank you're at. So I take it to mean there is no merchant account. Also - the monthly one is also an annual subscription, only you pay it in installments. The same rules apply other than paying a higher lump sum up front. You pay $29 instead of $69 up front, but the fact remains that you have to commit yourself for a year. The whole thing just seems very silly to me.

So, what's wrong with attaching your Visa card to paypal, and going about it that way? Am I missing something? ~DM

PheonixRising posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 4:07 AM

Turtle, Really not my place to explain this but this info in general business info these days so I hope this puts your concerns at ease. Merchant Account companies are seperate financial institutions that provide credit card transaction to businesses. They are the middle man between a company and the credit card companies. Merchant account companies in the online industry have changed some of general policies and attitudes within the past year. All merchant account companies regard online companies regardless of size, stability or age as high risk. Yearly membership in lump sums are not beeing embraced by merchant account companies as they once were. As a result security deposits that can exceed hundreds of thousands of dollars are commonly being reqested these days or else the merchant account companies reserve right to cancel their business relationships and revoke credit card transaction services. A company like Daz with thousands of customers all possesing yearly lump memberships could get hit with a security deposit requirement of almost 1M. See there are companies that have used meberships to scam money longterm and then quickly go out of business. Credit card perchases are governed by unique federal guarentees that can make the merchant account company liable for refund if the company doesn't. In the 1980's fitness gyms were notorious for charging yearly memberships and them abruptly closing leaving the merchant account companies holding the bag. In the online age, porn sites that offer yearly, bi-yearly, or lifetime memberships are running the same scam making it hard for everyone. The move to monthly payments in the PC was widely ask for by the public and considering this new tred in online financial services there is little choice if companies like Daz want to keep costs and prices low. Just don't want you to think there is a conspiracy to inconvenience people. I have many old friends in the finance industry whome I have taked to about this many times. Currently there is a choice of two paynment methods which still would put demands on Daz but Daz is trying to maintain options for the members. The lump method is easier but the monthy method is also unavoidable to lower the rating of risk as seem by the merchant account companies. I have a friend that owns a chain of successfull salons and a product line in London he sells online and TV. He is considered hi risk too. I think they consider everyone highrisk. lol Hope that clears things up, Anton

Very interesting. Thanks for that, Anton, that was informative and helpful. So what about the automatic renewal of PC? In response to a previous thread, I checked my account, and it stated that my PC membership would be renewed automatically and my credit card charged unless I opted out (which I promptly did). That was a few days ago. Can they do automatic renewals on a credit card, or has the change only come in the last couple of days?

Is it true you are leaving Daz Anton? Sorry to see you go and hoping you will still continue creating great products. Marque

Orio posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 5:38 AM

I think it should not be a problem to transfer money to Paypal first, then to DAZ... only the paypal fee to pay I think. But I'm not sure as I never done that.

Anton, just wondering the same as Marque? I really hope You ar continuing to creating poser stuffs, keep us informed. :)

There seem to be serveral different PayPals - mine just takes the money from my credit card, in GBP, with no fees (though I expect they use a favourable-to-them exchange rate, just as my credit card does). Where are all these fees coming from? As for the auto-renew: my account page shows it, but there is no card selected for it so nothing will happen unless I make a selection myself.

Silke posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 6:07 AM

Thanks for the explanation Anton, it's much appreciated. Paypal will charge your card - if you attached one - after you were approved and the card validated, so it might take a few days. Not really a problem. However, if you are in Europe and you pay via Paypal and don't get what you pay for you are.... screwed. In the US they will let you claim it back, in Europe they don't. Basically outside the US there is no chargeback. Also Paypal has been known to screw up payments in the past (A friend of mine had a huge problem, but personally I've never had a problem with them.) so people are a bit leery of them. Personally I don't mind Paypal, but I don't like having a card registered with Daz and then having to go off site etc to pay for an item in my shopping cart, while I can pay with the credit card for the rest of the bits. But alas, it's only once a year, so I'm not worried.

I just want to thank Anton for his very comprehensive explanation about what is going on. It was extremely thoughtful of him. I also want to express my sadness at seeing him leave DAZ, though I completely understand the need to move on to new creative horizons. All the best to you, Anton, whatever you undertake! You are an extremely talented man as well as a very warm-hearted and generous human being. And, like Snow Sultan, I really am wondering who is going to be providing Platinum Club content now? barb posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 8:18 AM

Train of thought- With DAZ I am bothered by the fact that through the PC club I have purchased most of the back models. So the new incentive pack isn't really that much of an incentive for me personally. It may be for others. At the same time, I get annoyed that I can't use my vouchers as I see fit within the Premiere area. I know why I can't but that doesn't mean I agree to its appropriateness. I should be able to use my present vouchers on anything in that area. And - if I renew using the monthly payments - I get vouchers that are not only restricted in use but eventually disappear. The onus is on me to spend and not on them to provide what I may wish to spend on. So I'm giving the PC some thought related to my renewal. Barb

Orio posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 9:57 AM

I think that, more than the PC models (who has a subscription to Poserworld gets much more for much less), the good of PC membership is the 30% discount on anything DAZ Premium: Victoria 3 and clothing, Michael 3 and clothing, the cat.... and so on. That's the main reason to resubscribe IMHO. If it was for the PC items by themselves, i probably wouldn't. - Orio

I renewed because I like the pc stuff, and the price. I'm not worried about vouchers and I also bought or downloaded free most of the stuff that they are giving away in the incentive pack. I think the platinum club is a great idea, and has allowed me to get a lot more than I would have without it. Marque

SnowSultan posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 11:59 AM

Another good point to the PC is that if DAZ Studio is released within the next year, being Platinum members should give us a little discount on it and/or it's expansion modules...at least, we'd better. :) SnowS

I was happy with the renewal. There were a few figures I'd been looking at getting for a long time but hadn't gotten around to them with all the other stuff I'd bought. Two items alone in the freebie pack that I'd really wanted but hadn't purchased yet were worth $55.00. I'm sure if I looked at other items, I'd come up with enough stuff to cancel out the membership fee. I just hope I don't get charged monthly now that I've paid for another year. I'll find out soon enough.
