Here is a new house I am putting out shortly. It was supposed to be done about four months ago, but I got sidetracked. It is the third house in the "tiny Cottage" series and is a oneroom, onestorey house figure with a working door. nothing too fancy.Name it and You will recieve it as a gift from me for the name. only one name will be accepted and the contest will end by tomorrow midnight. Pacific time.

Whitsend and the new house is a beauty!

ah, a touch of the Gaelic! good. Still leaning toward gingerwood though.
Kendra posted Thu, 09 October 2003 at 11:01 PM
I was going to suggest "petite maison" but I personally love CryptoPooka's suggestion of "Innisfree". It sure looks perfect for it.
*"I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evenings full of the linnet's wings.I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear the lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.-- William Butler Yeats"*
I love that poem. :)

ah ha! I am not well read on Yeats, but I recognised the "innis" as being the gaelic for island. More correctly "innish". The poem does strike a nice note. Dang it! Now I am leaning more towards that. My head hurts! What I need is more suggestions. A clear winner! Thank God I have till midnight the 10th to think these over.

Oh well, what the heck... One room, one storey...I gotta think it's for someone who wants to be alone. I'll go with "Hermit's Hut" (I would stick with "cottage" like most of the other names but the double "H" sounds kinda nice to me). Nice looking piece, Ironhart!

I really like some of the names presented. Due to possible copywrite infringements I decided not to use those that I know are from poems and movies. Yeats stuff was still copywritten in the late 60's so it is possible it could still be under copywrite. quiet man was 50's I think, and could still be under copywrite. I really doubt either copywrite holder would find me or care, but it is a chance best not taken. I did like both names though White O' Morn and Innisfree would both be better for an irish style cottage. That left me with other names to consider and I narrowed it down to two. Gingerwood was great! but I chose Inglenook. Why? I don't know! I like the sound of it and it is short. It just somehow really fits. So Congrats Hauksdottir and thank you all for the names and the effort you put forth on this. Billy
hauksdottir posted Sun, 12 October 2003 at 4:11 AM
Wow! :) This is a surprise (there are many good names in this thread). I think that Inglenook originally meant a recessed area near a fireplace - a corner where folks could be cozy and snug and it's always had that warm association for me. There are a couple of exclusive communities named Inglenook so it's possible that the idea of a retreat is now stronger than the connection with a hearth. "Nook" is one of my favorite words, in any case. Thank you!! This is charming, and with flowerpots on the window shelves and a cat on the railing will definately be a welcome retreat. Any place a cat chooses to stay has got to be special. I'm delighted. :) Carolly
ChuckEvans posted Sun, 12 October 2003 at 7:37 AM
Mucho congrats, Carolly! NOW, everytime I see that little cottage, I'll remember who named it. :-)

Actually, now that I have it, I think it is the perfect place for a writer who needs quiet space in order to complete the novel, epic, or PhD thesis! There are lots of bookshelves, and a place for a writing table with good light from the windows. :) If you are isolated enough (like at the far, far end of the garden) you could even leave the door open without fear of interruption while working.
