On the Carrara list at eGroups, Antoine Clappier contributed a Carrara-ready formula for generating the famous Klein Bottle. The great thing about this approach is how well the formula maps 2D surface shaders, like this pseudo-wireframe I generated. (It's interesting that a dithered GIF gives the best quality to weight ratio for thin lines like this.) SMcQ

Been following your posts on the eGroups list. Man, I need to learn more about that stuff! Is there a basic tutorial on formula fundementals somewhere? Does the Carrara bible have anything like that? Mark

This link will get you started on formulas, too much math for me: http://mcn.simplenet.com/graphics/3d/rds/formula/default.htm

The URL quoted by willf is the only one I've seen that provides a tutorial about converting parametric equations to Carrara/RD format. Other sites with parametric equations that can be adapted to Carrara/RD: http://www.swin.edu.au/astronomy/pbourke/geometry/ http://mathworld.wolfram.com/topics/MiscellaneousSurfaces.html http://www.uib.no/People/nfytn/mathgal.htm SMcQ
