I could of sworn I saw those dragons advertising the magazine even before the winners were announced. I think it was already known what picture would win. Im not big on people riding others coattails, and thats exactly what he did. I would of liked that picture if they were his dragons, but all he did was pose them and throw them on an imported sled. I or anyone else here could have made the exact picture in 5 minutes. It truly sad when you think about all the time the people put in their work, just to lose to a mediocre picture. Not all of my post here is negative, as I applaud his imagination. He was really on the ball when he thought of dragons ona sled as being a winter memory.

The dragons were not advertising the magazine before the winners were announced. It was not already known who would win. AgentSmith

Agentsmith, keeper of peace. You need some fancy jedi mind tricks man... I can picture you waving your hand like quigon jin when you write "It was not already known who would win" or "the dragons were not advertizing the magazine before the winners were announced" heh... Sorry. It's really funny though if you think about it..

Out of wit!? say it isn't so...I didn't enter, but I was curious about the why's and wherefor's....so many great entries, and many that were upset...and no one at the mag really answered my question either. So I am reseigned to never winning a cover, because I don't know Poser that well.

Uh, I see that deemarie, Co-Editor in Chief of the magazine left you a reply that measures like a foot and half long on my screen.... Any other reply's from her are going to have to wait, her area lost its electricity, she's without PC right now. AS

Yeah, Dialyn mentioned as much. The post was long, yes, yes it was...but the issue was side tracked. It was brought up that people buying magazines off the newstand are more likely to pick up one that has a person or person(s) on it. Well, yeah, people make the news, but I subscribe to several Fine Art mags and they rarely have people or artwork portraying people on the covers, actually the covers of those publications are rather diversified and still provide enough interest for people to buy them. One of my favorite artist's Frank Stella, had a cover (Modern Art) that was really neat, he makes his sculptures from twisted car bodies. That issue sold out. Southwest Art features all kinds of artwork even though the magazine is geared for the title. Art in America, features all kinds too on their cover. So what are they afraid of, that nobody will want the magazine if a Poser figure isn't featured on the cover? Sorry, that was a rhetorical question....;]

When I read the replies I felt that all issues were side stepped and nothing was answered. I'll agree with what was said about not all issues have Poser on the cover but they all have human like figures. Lots of people don't have access to Poser or don't have the nesessary skills in Maya, Rhino, 3DS, to create human like figures so in essence this leaves many without a hope of ever winning the cover place, and this is what I see as unfair. I also got the impression from the answers that they were shock that anyone dare ask these questions, but this is a varied community and this mag supposedly represents the whole community so shouldn't we have the right to comment on how the admin represent us. I don't think things will ever change in this matter and I don't think I'll enter these contests any more, we'll see. Catlin

Absolutely, you have the right to comment, we all do, its just unfortunate that a good portion of these various threads have dealt with some snide comments from a few, etc, etc. But, that aside...as I see it in my own mind; if we all don't enter then of course Poser and figures will dominate the front cover. And I have zero against Poser or figures on the front cover (sorry, lol). I look at it from the point of view that the more Bryce entries we have, the more we're doing to keep Bryce alive. whether or not Bryce gets the front cover, which it has twice (once with kromekat-no poser figure, and once with rochr), is way beside the point for me. I mean, I had two of my Bryce renders printed in Mag Issue #7, (with no Poser figures), no...didn't make any covers, but again, I'm just jazzed to see my stuff printed, anything else, to me, is just icing on the cake. Listen, any time business and art have to meet and mix, it can suck one way or another. But, as I see it, I gotta try. AS

I agree AS, you can't win the lotto, unless you buy a ticket. I still wish the time frame for covers was just a little bit more though...however, tommorrow is another day...:)

Yeah, I understand the mag staff never really get a break, mag work is ever-ongoing, but it would be cool if say a week after one cover contest, we could get the theme for the next, so we would have tons of time. (6 weeks+?) AS

Zhann posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 7:29 PM

How many times does it come out, 6? That would be two months lead time, or am I losing brains cells? Well, yeah, one month to run the contest, pick the winners and announce the next theme, your right, about 6 weeks... The staff works really hard to make it a great publication, their work is never done.....:)

And, they are all volunteers. If renderosity had to pay employees a wage to produce the Mag, it just couldn't be done. AS

I agree with Zhann, give us extra time to complete an image. I think it was electroglyph who said that a Bryce render can take forever especially if you win and giving us more time would allow for the completion of the image and a further render of the image for the mag if it was the winner. Could you perhaps pass that bit on to the mag staff AS to see what they think? Catlin

And none of you find dhood's post #2 offensive?! I or anyone else here could have made the exact picture in 5 minutes. I certainly don't agree. That Millenium dragon is a beast to pose, and at least on my current computer takes forever to test and render. And that's not just one. I've tried to put multiples in one image and it is literally hell getting them to interact, especially when your system slows down to 'watching paint dry' mode. Poor sportsmanship is what comes to mind. You learn a lot about people by how they react to losing. A simple , 'Congrats' & a 'I'll learn from this & try harder next time' might have been more polite and Effective.

As to the accusation that the Magazine Cover Contest questions were not address [or worse - that the answers were side-stepped] ... I personally addressed Each Question in a point by point detailed outline - Not Once - but in several posting to that thread!

Instead of re-posting my answers here, please revisit the above Link to Zhann's thread in the Magazine Interact Forum.

The sad thing - no one has noticed, is that there are 15 images from the Cover contest that will be Featured within the Magazine this Issue [more than we have every featured from previous contests] - The majority of those images are Non-Poser! Further more ... In Issue 8 we will be highlighting several Bryce artists; in tutorials, articles, and images.

Lastly - I Highly resent the implication that the contest was rigged In Any Way What So Ever! and that We Did not even know who the contest winner would be when we posted the Front Page article - Because - The Contest winners had not even been voted on at the time the front page article was posted!

FYI - Rosity is helping us to promote the magazine by allowing us space each week to highlight an article from ISSUE 7 - We started out with the First article of that issue - which just happened to be Bigt's dragons!

For those of you who have a Rosity Magazine, you can verify that fact! The second article that will be highlighted on the Rosity Web Site's Front Page Story will feature - Kicker and digital photography [which is issue 7's second magazine article]!

The Renderosity Magazine supports all software Across the Board and its soul purpose is to promote Renderosity Artists!

If you wish to have an article or image featured in the magazine - Contact me, and I will be very happy to go over your proposal with you! We are always looking for talented members to promote within the magazine's pages!
