Will the DVD feature animations by Renderosity members, or is it only to showcase still images?

I would love to put animations on this DVD, but I don't realy have a good way to get them here. They can be very large. The idea for this one is to pick the "Best of Renderosity". We are still unclear on how we plan on picking them out.. As we get closer to picking images, I will let you know how we plan on doing it. The only way I can think of doing the animations is for the members to send me the animations on DVD for review. A DVD data disc, not DVD movie disc. I need uncompressed 720X480 29.97 FPS Or better yet, make it in DVD NTSC format (mpeg-2) But we will still need to review them and some will not make it. catlin_mc, That's cool!

Hi Spike, I'm going to have to re-render that animation to fit the criteria. I could change the format using an editor but it would loose all detail/sharpness. What's the time-line to the entries? Regards, Thomas.

Spike: I've been watching DVD1 constantly for a week now....no, don't laugh, it's been running on my son's pc which is next to mine. I have only one crit and I think maybe others might feel the same. The time any pic is on screen is too short. Some (and I'm not talking about just my own) are on screen for just a fraction of a second. Those that are on for longer are still not on long enough for you to get the whole thing and maybe figure out what the pic is about.... Can you slow the whole thing down or at least give us the option to do it ourselves. Some DVD software allows the user to 'stretch' viewing time.......? Ok, We will also include animations for this DVD as well. Please render them at: - 720X480 - Aspect ratio of .9 - 29.97 fps - Uncompressed - Interlace none or - 655X720 - Aspect ratio of 1.0 - 29.97 fps - Uncompressed - Interlace none If you can't render at 29.97fps, go to 30fps but note that you might see some flicker.. Please try to keep your animations to around 1 min long, or If we do use it, We might edit it down.. Put them on a CD or DVD data disc. If your animation also has a sound track, please include it as well or I will put music or sound fx over it.. Please send all animations for review to: Renderosity Att: Spike 444 Metroplex Dr, Ste B104 Nashville, TN 37211 USA Please make sure you put your Renderosity user name someplace on the CD/DVD or cover so I will know who it's from. The deadline will be Jan 15th 2004. Thanks Spike

What do the numbers in aspect ratio stand for that's with square and non-square pixels right? I think 1.0 is a square pixel? But how rectangular is a .9 aspect ratio what's the width:hight 'balance'? I'm new to this whole aspect ratio stuff :)

Correct.. .9 is like saying 9/10" wide X 1" high... or maybe the other way around, I forget... Bottom line, If you can't set it in your rendering app, it's 1.0 and you should render you animation at 655X720

All, a great reference for render sizes /pixel aspect ratio is at the link attached. Note for people who can only render square, most vid editing software (e.g. premiere etc) can resample the video for you, same with speed. Spike could you clarify if you're going for NTSC SVCD or NTSC DV, (svcd drops 8 pixels, - it affects the 'safe' zone), both are often used for transfer to DVD, although DV is preferred.----------

The problem must be the video codec, its DIVX 5.1 I think that zipping a jgps sequence can be a good idea. The size is short and you only need a direct encoding in your video editor (being serius, correct size, no aditional work,...).
