Hi. I'm still learing Poser. (Poser 4 to be exact,) I see that there are a ton of 2D art software. However, I use Paint Shop Pro 7. I haven't seen anyone here at Renderosity, or most other Renderosity-type sites talk about PSP7. Is it a product that doesn't work well with Poser, or is it not up to the same standards as the other 2D software listed here, or has it been around here and I haven't seen it because my eyes are closed? :-) Just wondering because I do like PSP7, partly because it was cheap, but because I find it easy. Thanks for the help! Frank

Damn. I just found it the forum. I guess it was a case of my eyes being closed. (Actually, I was looking under "Paint Shop Pro" instead "Jasc Paint Shop Pro") Oops. I still need to ask: does PSP work well with Poser?

I use it all the time. There are others too.

Deep-Trances: Unless you expect your artwork to replace the scribblings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (you would need PS for that, I guess), PSP7 should give you all the painting power you need. Plus, it's less expensive, with a lower learning curve. Some of the graphic filters in PS are PS exclusive (or just don't work in my version), but again: what is your end goal? Applause from friends, family, and R'osity folks? Or some Pope guy saying, "Nice work. But M3 as Moses? Doesn't look right. Not manly enough." You'll be fine with PSP7. G'snix

all my renders here in my gallery are mixed poser and psp7. take a look. you just cant import/export to psp7. you save the poser as a jpg then open in psp to play. netta

I save the poser as a tiff, then you can remove it from the background and put it on anything you want....
Dizzie posted Fri, 17 October 2003 at 5:50 PM
Oh netta, you are missing alot by saving your renders as a jpg....save them/export image as a tif and then you can load selection from Alpha Channel and it will get your render with no background....PSP works great with Poser renders...:>)

Save Poser as a Tiff... (reads the above message,) don't mind me ~G~ Only use jpg for your junk images. Never for your finished render ~G~ PSP is great, though I disliked 7, 6 was good. 8 is what I'm using now and like. 7 ... it was just off for me.

I use PSP8 and love it. I also use Gimp as a back-up for things I'm not quite sure how to do yet in PSP. I save in Tiff or PSD, for the alfa channel. I couldn't afford PS, not with the money difference. Something I can't figure out, how do all the newbee's afford it. Oh well, many of the PS plug-ins work in PSP.

PSP8 doesn't like my printer, or my printer doesn't like PSP8, one or the other, but never had any problems with 7 so I do all my printwork in 7 and some of my postwork in 8. And before someone suggests getting a new printer, let me just say there's no way I'm replacing one that will print 16 x 20 for one that will only do 11 x 14 (which is all they have in my price range - no way I'm paying 5 grand for a printer) Kate the cheapskate

I had Photoshop for a while but I find PSP to be much easier to use so in my book PSP is better :)

I use PSP 7 all the time for textures and postwork, and for digtal photo manipulation as well. It's not possible to paint on a 3D model directly as with the 3D paint programs, and okay, maybe you can't do everything that you can with the more expensive 2D image apps, but for the money PSP is superb. I prefer the interface to Photoshop as well (although that could be because I use it far more often). If you save renders as TIFF files to get the alpha channel information, Poser leaves 'blank' any of the (grey, unless you changed the colour) background still showing. If you've filled in all your background with props and scenery then you won't have any blank bits in the alpha channel. I sometimes render twice- once with the scenery, and once without the scenery and with just the model, so I've got the alpha channel info for the model. Load up the with-scenery render as the background layer and the no-scenery render as the next layer. Then 'load from alpha channel' in the Mask menu from the no-scenery version of the render, to seperate the model cleanly from the background layer.
Couple it with UVmapper to create texture templates. If you save working documents as PSP native format to keep your layers, you can save copies in JPG format and run Poser at the same time with that JPG loaded as the texture. Poser will pick up any updates you make to the texture and you can see what the changes look like.

I also been a PSP user for years now and use PSP7 exclusively for my postwork, and love it, even though I have PS. I've even used it for lighting on my work. And I've used the vectors feature to create clothing and accessories for my images, working on layers within PSP. Bit of a challenge but fun. Now if I could just learn how to use UVmapper I'd be a happy camper!

I have been using psp for a long time now. I know it better than any other paint software I have. I have adobe photoshop bc it is required for my college classes. But I very rarely use it. I like corel paint 8 too. but since my pc crashed back here a few months ago I haven't re installed it yet. UVmapper for some ungodly reason kept crashing on my pc. It would work once or twice, and then it would ask as though it were going to load up and then it would close it's self saying there was an error and needed to close. It did that serveral times so I just deleted it and found another mapper. ALthough I must say< i still haven't mastered the mapper. I now have the Maya free learning addition. Which I need to learn for my college classes. I'm a big 3D mess but I'd love to learn them all! I just wish it didn't seem to hard at this point. --Essie
