I'm truly lovin' this Anime Doll Kit. I didn't realize there were so many anime fans here at 'rosity. I believe someone brought it up in a previous thread, but all of us anime fans should pool our knowledge base and start some sort of Poser 'anime alliance'...Just a thought...

Can't wait to drop the unedited season 1 from ADV on her. With the Bishonen pack at Daz, the resources are there to actually -do- anime in Poser (Wonder if a Bishoujo pack is in the works? The more resources, the merrier!).

Darkskills, reading through the replies certainly seems to confirm a community based knowledge pool would be useful. I hardly understood a word of the above. I agree that the anime doll is a great model, and the blurred background of your image has just the right anime feel about it. I've a feeling that we'll be needing some morphs soon for the soft body stuff, where's Traveller...?

Dale B: All the backgrounds I use in animations are made using Vue. I'm in the process of putting together a tutorial showing the process I use in Vue to pull-off the cell shade look. Interesting enough, I was poking around E-on's site, reading up on the scripting capabilities of Vue Pro and found that the example shader script they showcase is a cel-shader. It's not referred to as a cel-shader though. I believe they call it 'black outline on objects' or something like that. The example looked crude, but had potential and with the right tweaks...

Saxon: I believe when Dale B mentions Odango Atama it's a referrence to the Sailor Moon series. The translation is 'Dumpling Head'. They would call Usagi this to upset her, because the things on top of her head look like dumplings. I'm pretty sure the DiC series is also a Sailor Moon reference. Although in the DiC translation they call her 'meatball head' instead of dumpling head.

There's a Bishonen pack at DAZ? Hmmm...

I'm new to the whole thing of anime, Berserga. But I became intrigued about it when I couldn't take my eyes off the illustrations for various Gameboy game covers several years ago. For the life of me, I just couldn't figure out why the girls looked so sexy yet cartoonish. Go figure. Now, I'm buying posters, art magazines, etc. (Somebody help me!)

Yes, Japanese Manga and Anime line drawings are very sexy! The reasons are, I think, that the Japanese are very good at recognizing what is CUTE (Kawai)- that's why CUTE STUFF sells really well in Japan- Child faces, Animal Faces, etc. I think whoever jumps on more CUTE anime stuff will do well. It will probably be Maya or the other Japanese modelers, as they already know what to make- they just need to offer it here in the REN Store! BTW- I cruise the Japanese sites all the time and there are FANTASTIC free models of stuff people never see here. I just got an INCREDIBLE V3 Character face yesterday- looks like Tuesday Weld- Bridget Bardot- KILLER in Blonde Hair. BTW- People here in WEST-LAND should try to think more "OUTSIDE THE BOX" with these Manga-Anime characters! Try BLONDE hair and Western Clothes on them! Try rendering them with an ILLUSTRATION style, rather than just CEL-SHADE. There's LOTS of great Character looks than can be done. Don't get locked into a "IT MUST LOOK JAPANESE" look! (The Japanese Do Not!!!) And- MayaDoll works great with all my Schlabber P4 and Vicky poses- guns, swords, horse riding and his Famous Artists series. Try some FRAZETTA ANIME looks, It's COOL!

She was maybe the EARLIEST of all Anime Charas- made for P4 and came with a suit of Anime Armor and Karate-Kick poses. An amazingly good chara considering that its from the early P4 era. Had (has) a GREAT Anime Face Morph! I still use the hair- including now on Anime Doll.

Ah, Sailor Swoon. Sigh The series started out well, but every single time the going got tough, the tough watched Sailor Moon simper while Tuxedo Mask saved the day. I won't claim to be the biggest anime fan here, but I have a respectable collection of DVDs - about 180 DVDs currently. And, hey, there's nothing wrong with exploring how to get the "typical" manga look. Right now, we're getting a lot of technique swapping going on. There's been very little cel shading going on as a whole, so there's nothing wrong with a stampede into this "box" as a break from other boxes. And once we explore this one, we can incorporate what we like and move on. Maybe we won't think outside the box, but perhaps we'll break down walls between boxes and make bigger, more interesting boxes. ;-) Cheers!

Hmm.. actually all this talk about Anime is there any actual anime characters around? So far I think Ive seen some Dragon Ball and one Evangelion character, a lot of superheros but not many anime. Anyone know of any sites?

I think there was a Piccolo from DBZ up on animotions in the past. Ascii-somethingorother can't remember his name was working on some Ranma charas then dissapeared. Well the best idea for why Japanese anime/manga character design have such appeal was presented in the book understanding comics by Scott McCloud. the gist of it was that there is very little extraneus detail in many manga/anime artists styles, so there is less to distract the viewer from empathising with the character. In other words sometimes a smiley face can convey emotions better than a highly realistic drawing. Of course not all Manga artists/anime chara designers have such simple styles, and some like Ryoichi Ikegami have quite realistic styles. As for the broader appeal of Japanese comics and animation... that's simple: It's the best in the world. You have genres for everyone, and a level of storytelling and film making that often blows everything else in the west to hell. There's also a lot of cheaply done crap too... but with the absolutely astonishing volume of anime and manga produced each year in Japan that's not suprising.

Yeah, Berserga, I sat in on a forum at Dragon*Con about East and West annimation. At the forum, the general feeling was that the Eastern Manga was superior over Western comics (better story telling and plots).Interesting. Also, purchased "Japanese Commickers" (soft book) to gain some insight on the different styles.

Actually, she's not bad exported as a Flash file either...

Link To Anime-Manga Links- Including "Dirty Pair" website Tom Woof's (Manga Babe creator) website and other sites loaded with Manga-Anime art, animation, news and galleries. Some great reference stuff here. I think the Flash output from Poser Pro-Pack can really be put to good use with the Cel-Shade look, mainly because its already a reduced color set. Obviously the example above shows it can work nicely. Also, I NOT against the "Manga Look", I'm actually a major longtime fan of it. What I was refering to by "Out Of The Box" thinking is to try to EXPAND the art form even more. The Japanese feed off our ideas, and we feed off theirs. It's a good thing when everyone is working at taking a the MangaAanime concept to the "next level".

I agree with ya veritas. The Japanese have gone nuts with mixed media in recent years, and the Koreans actually one uped em with the film "Wonderful Days," mixing 2d digital animation with 3D animation, Miniature models and live action, and it all works very well together.

Can't see Torulf's Gallery. Also cannot figure out how to "change my setting" for gallery pics, etc. They must have recently done this, I guess, because I could see them before! Berserga- I actually became aware of the Dirty Pair website several years ago when the P4 Dirty pair characters were released. I can't find them there now, but I suppose someone still has them. I've been downloading this stuff for years- now that Anime Doll has come out and all these Cel-Shade and Z-Toon effects are available, I'm rummaging through my big collection of Poser Anime-Manga stuff. One thing I like about Anime Doll is that she has a fairly simple, but extremely sexy little bod, and I think even some of my classic P4 download stuff will work on her. (People used to make some GREAT freebies. You don't even see stuff like this for sale in the REN Store!)

And well worth the money, as it is basically just dial twisting on M2 (no custom geometry), and you get several of the 'good' type faces and an equal number of the 'evil' faces. And 3 anime bodyshapes. And Mike's wardrobe to play with in the bargain. Not to mention all the accessories and textures. Why I would love to see a companion Bishoujo pack for Vickie.... Saxon; Yah, those was Sailor Moon references, except for Dic; that was the company in Canada that bastardized and sanitized the series for the dumb Americans. And the dumplings in question are Japanese style dumplings, which are rather large and round. Calling Usagi 'meatball head'(due to her topknotted twin ponytails) attributed far too much density to her cranial region than neccesary (but hey, what would you expect from a 14 year old reincarnated moon princess anyway?). Fortunately, ADV got the rights to the first two seasons and released them unedited and subtitled, and Pioneer is doing the same to season 3 and 4. It's only taken 30 years or so, but there are companies that are finally getting the clue that you don't edit a good series (of course ADV was started by fans as well....). And an anime hangout at Rosity would be cool, methinks. Might scare the non-otaku...but then again, that's part of the fun... >:D
