I asked a couple of days back if anyone knew how to depth map in Poser. I had tried to use the Poser depth cue but had got poor results, ended up using Max. Care to share your settings?
Jackson posted Mon, 20 October 2003 at 8:23 AM
These are the first of these things I've ever been able to see. Saw them both and Phil's too. Thanks! I'd like to know how it's done also.

I really haven't spent alot of time with the settings, but here is what I did.First of all it didn't seem to work in Poser 5.
Download SysGen
In Poser 4 select the prop or figure you want to use.
Remove all texture maps. Change Object Color, Highlight Color, Ambient Color, and Reflective
Color to a light to medium gray.
4.Under Display on the top menu bar check Depth Cued, or use the Depth Cued Ball under the
Full Tracking Ball along side the render window.
Change Background to black.
Remove all Lights.
Render as Bitmap
Take into PhotoShop or Equiv. and change to indexed (256) picture and save as bitmap.
Run Stereo.exe
Click Console, Load your Indexed bitmap into depth map
11.Load treept85 (comes with sysgen) into pattern
By adjusting light and dark alot of things can be tweaked in poser and photoshop.
Lots of fun just don't have time right now.
PhilC posted Mon, 20 October 2003 at 12:14 PM
Ahh thanks. I used Sisgen also but in Poser I used white material and one spotlight shining form the camera with no shadow. I'll try your settings.

Karen, I've never been able to see these things either until today. It's all in how you look at them, literally. You can't focus on them and you can't cross your eyes. I believe you have to keep both eyes pointing straight ahead at the pic. It takes some practice but is pretty amazing when the thing finally comes through.
Paranoid posted Mon, 20 October 2003 at 6:26 PM
Karen, if the way to fly is to fall and miss the ground, than the way how to see these pictures is actually NOT looking at them. Sit in front of the monitor and allow your eyes to unfocus - works perfectly after a six-pack or when you are sleepy. Just look straight through the monitor and relax. The picture will appear after a while. Well, at least that works for me.

I didn't see one for Surface3D, Caly. Don't know about sisgen. It seems the ones generated by sisgen have more depth than Surface3D. It appears lighter backgrounds give more depth also. So far, Gary's first two with the blue background seem the best for depth. But that could just be me, I don't know. BTW, I printed one in black and white and the image still appears fine on paper.

Caly, I did a quick search on Versiontracker.com and found this: http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/absird.html You will also need this program to get it work: http://www.rhythm.com/~keith/autoStereoGrams/absird/ both are freeware. I havent used either, but like you I wanted to know if there was an OSX version. I don't forsee having the time to test these so if you have the time to test them please let me know how they work.

I didn't have a problem. Were you trying to run the exe from inside the zip? You have to unzip all the files to a folder then run setup.exe from there.

Yes, in Internet Explorer go to File/Save. It will save the page and all the links and graphics to your hard drive.

Odd. Something must be corrupting it during download. If you have another machine to download it to, it may fit on a floppy so you can move it over to your main machine. I can email you my good zip if you'd like. It's 1.46 megs.
