Subject: Difference between "PC Only" and "PC/Mac" ?

I'm working on a freebie package for the M3 Body Suit. It'll consist of .jpg textures and MAT files for applying them. When I'm ready to upload it, I'd like to accurately note what platforms it'd work on. Does the Mac version of Poser read the same type of MAT files that PC Poser does? Is there some difference in the directory structure I should be aware of? I'm not sure what determines the difference as regards platform compatability. Any guidance from those who know would be appreciated.

As far as I know unless you supply your work as an EXE file then there is no problem with defining it as dual platform. Mac users will just use the Mac converter & installer utilities available in the freestuff.

yes, there's a difference. you need to keep your texture names less than 20 characters including the letters .jpg or the mat files won't find the textures and poser will hang. love esther

also the texture referances in the mats you have to replace the (/) backslash with the (:)colon

I'm a mac user, and I never had problem using the "PC Only" stuff. I just have to convert them with the MacConverter utility, and everything works fine. BTW, the texture names need to have less than 31 characters including .jpg, not 20. Regards

Wow, thank you, everyone, for your very helpful responses. I wasn't aware of the filename restriction, but that's no problem. Several people here have helped me out with various issues in the past few weeks. I really appreciate it ... community at its best.

X, just to clarify on the pathnaming issue a bit... Inside your MAT files, where the texture files are referenced, if you see anything like: "c:Program FilesPoserRuntimetexturesxocstufffilename.jpg" ...you should replace them with the following style, relative to the Poser directory (strip off the first part of the path up to Runtime) and using colons instead of slashes... ":Runtime:textures:xocstuff:filename.jpg" Cheers, - Keith

Good point from Spanki, here. I had this kind of issue several times in the past. All I had to do in those cases was to open the cr2, hr2 or pp2 in BBEdit and changed the lines "c:Program Files:Poser:etc..." to "Runtime:textures:etc...", as Spanki wrote above. Well, as you can see, no major problem, anyway...:-) Regards

People also set their content as PC only because they cannot offer MAC support incase something does go wrong.

I use the excellent Merchant Utility by laetia in free stuff to check for MAC compatability
