I have this terrain and I added a material which is called "Freshly Dug Grave". Now I want to add another material under it called "Eroding Cliff". How do I do that? I know that if you select the diffuse button it adds another material underneath it to Texture B, but how can I get a material from the main materials list instead of the ones they have in that drop menu on the top right. If I select the preview on the left and select the material I want, it changes Texture A into it instead of texture B. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks again.

Thanks I didn't know that but it still doesn't exactly answer my question. I'm probably explaining it wrong. I'm sorry! Thanks for taking the time to show me pictures. What you showed me is how to get to the texture library on texture b or c. What I need to know is how to get to the material library on texture B. The tutorial I'm doing has two materials, the "Eroding Cliffs"(Technorock4) and the "Freshly Dug Grave"(illands31). It has the "Fresly Dug Grave" as the top material, and "Eroding Cliffs" as the second material. http://www.j.b.allen.btinternet.co.uk/bigsite/ground.html At the very bottom of the page at this link you will see what I'm talking about. The second material on his picture is "Forest Floor 2" but that's because he tweaked the colors of "Eroding Cliffs". So basically, is there a way to get two materials from the material list instead of the texture list, or am I out of luck? hehe Thanks!

Actually I just tried something. I went to the materials folder and copied the Rocks and Stones.mat then changed the extension to .brt and put it in the texture folder. Then I went into the texture area like you showed me above and found "Eroding Cliffs"(techno rock4) there. The only strange thing is that theres nothing but white blocks, you just have to click on each one and it then shows you a preview. Anyway I fixed my problem, thats a bunch!

White blocks are not a good thing, be careful or you will lose all your presets, I suggest backing up your mats...

Aviticus, I understand what you are saying, but that's not how the Material Lab works. The texture libraries are FULL, 4-channel (even if some are empty) Materials. The channels INSIDE of the Material Lab are just that, channels. They have their own libraries, either the fractal (DTE) library, or an image-based library. SO, you cannot blend those two materials in as simple a fashion as you suggest. You must select the channels from each that are important, and insert them into your new Material, and blend them with a third channel to affect the slope/altitude sensitivity.... More on this topic in a bit...

But if you select the texture you want to use underneath the first texture and go into the DTE, you can add that to the textures presets so that when you load the second channel you can go in there again and select the new one. Catlin

Yeah do as catlin said. Choose the eroding cliff material then go into the DTE like in post 3 then select add. Now select the graveyard material and ctrl-click the channel C marker next to diffuse. Then as shown in post 2 for channel B select the technorock 4 that you added and for C forest (which is in bump). Now for an explantion of what is happening since the author of the tut doesn't know. With and ABC blend (markers in 3 channels for the same thing, in this case diffusion(color)) A and B are blended together based on the alpha channel in texture C and how that blending is done is based on the filter chosen for those textures (ie an altitude filter will blend them vertically). If you dont have "Real World Bryce" I highly suggest getting it because it goes into great detail of the material lab and all the formulas.

Thanks for your help guys!

Just wait till you get Real World Bryce, there are chapters and chapters on the DTE. It really is a mammoth undertaking to understand all that goes on in that one little part of Bryce but that's what makes it such a powerful tool. 8) Catlin

Sorry, I don't want to put you off Aviticus so I'll just add that once you learn the basics of the DTE it really is quite simple to pick up on the more indepth parts of it. 8) Catlin
